Please support the inaugural Craig Busby Memorial Game between a Salem XV and a West Leeds XV at Blue Hill Lane on Saturday, kick-off 3.00 pm.

As most of you will be aware, Craig Busby passed away in March of this year after a long and courageous battle against myeloma, a cancer of the white blood cells.

A Cornishman by birth, Craig made his name as a coach in Yorkshire and was well-known and widely respected throughout the county. "Buzz", as he was generally known, was associated with several clubs over the years including Headingley, Selby, West Leeds and Garforth.

He joined Salem as head coach in 2005 and guided us through one of the most successful periods in the club's history which included promotion to Yorkshire 1, a Twickenham appearance in the final of the RFU Senior Vase, and victory in the Yorkshire Shield final.

In recent seasons Craig's involvement had been restricted by his illness and the treatment he underwent and yet, remarkably his final act on the rugby field was at the West Leeds - Salem game the Saturday before he died when he came on to the pitch in his wheel-chair to deliver the half-time team talk.

Now both clubs have agreed that the most appropriate way of both paying their respects and also of celebrating his life, is to play a game in his memory. We hope this will become an annual pre-season fixture with the venue alternating.

So if you were ever coached by Craig and fancy a run-out, come along and bring your boots. Otherwise, please come along anyway and support what we hope will be a fitting tribute to a great man.
