Bradshaw CC won by 95 runs
Rod Warhurst Cup Round Robin Stage
| Bradshaw CC | 183/8 | vs | 88 | Southowram CC |
We are young... And ruthless
Youthful 3rds ease past Southowram
On a day when captain James Thompson only had 9 players at his disposal, 6 of whom were under the age of 18, it looked like it could be a long afternoon.
Southowram won the toss and duly put us in to bat. Elliot and Connor opened the batting and looked good, an opening stand of 82 which was dominated by some big shots from Elliot. It was abruptly brought to an end though when a bit of bad romance between the batters ended with Elliot being run out.
In came Joe Lewis at 3 and he quickly settled in. But only 14 runs later and connor's best mardy bum impression cam out as he was out caught behind.
Bob Dougall quickly followed when he skied an easy return catch for the bowler, this brought Adam Lewis in to join his brother.
They looked settled until Joe was out lbw. Upon the advice of Woofer, the gambler Sam Turner went in next to try and biff it around a bit, but was duly out a couple of deliveries later. Adam and debutant Toby followed soon after which left the captain and last man Woofer at the crease. With some lusty blows around the ground they brought the total up to a very good 183 before Woofer was out to a very debatable LBW.
And so we set out trying to bowl southowram out with Josh Dougall and Marc Lewis joining us in the field to bring us up to a full team.
Joe Lewis and Sammy T opened the bowling and both bowled well but without much luck. In the last over of his spell though Joe managed to get the dangerous Uttley out caught behind just as he looked like he was getting his eye in.
Connor and James came in to the attack and this proved to be the decisive moment in the game.
Both struck early in their spells and with the help of Adam Lewis when he came on, Southowram's middle/ lower order fell like domino's.
Overall a good win by 95 runs which sets us up nicely for the next round of the cup and potentially a place in the quarter finals.
