North Penn defeats BRFC
Key Injuries to BRFC a concern moving forward
As nick mcbride gave his pre-game hype speech, the energy was undeniable. Brandywine was ready to play. The first possession was sloppy, but our boys jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Chris Ponto showed off his luscious leg game.
After a few missteps by Brandywine, North Penn battled back to take a 14-3 lead, but Ponto was ready to show his skills again as he made a textbook tackle, flashed his hands, and poached the ball. The only thing left to do was get it in the hands of the willing and able Matt "Bowling Ball" Carpenter to watch those little stubs for legs trot down the field for try time. A missed conversion left the score at 8-14 bad guys, but the half wasn't over, and neither was the fight in Brandywine.
As the ball found it's way into Tim Horan's shifty hands, a quick "okie doke special" and some evasiveness you just can't teach, helped the scrum half elude contact and find the try zone. After a conversion, Brandywine had the 15-14 lead, which they would take into the half, along with a ten minute penalty assessed to Brian "Poodles" Confer for sticking up for one of his Brandywine brothers.
A few injuries to the Brandywine side led to some roster shifts and substitutions, leaving some players out of their "normal positions," and some new talent on the field. These changes seemed to influence the flow of the Brandywine boys in white, and a few miscues led to some unfortunate scoring by North Penn.
At the end of the day, the scoreboard stood at 15-42 bad guys, but Brandywine fought hard til the bitter end. Losers try to find ways to win. Winners find a way to get better. The bright side is that the rust has been shaken off. One thing Brandywine has is heart, and we take that into practice this week to prepare for our first league match against Wilmington. We know what needs work, and we know how to fix it. For now, it's time to get back to work. We don't quit; we learn, move on, and improve. September 12th is over. Get your popcorn ready for September 19th...
