Brentwood Minis Win at Waltham Forest Minis League Tournament

29th January – Essex Mini Hockey League – Waltham Forest

For the second successive tournament we put 6 sides out, meaning more players than ever got to play, even with the afternoon timing causing some availability issues. The tournament was well run, and despite the awful weather the players had a great time.

U10 Boys (managed by Ian ‘Barry Fry’ Anderson)
We were short of players last Sunday, but luckily the U10 girls helped us out with a couple of players for each game and the results were superb. Unbeaten for the tournament.

Brentwood 2 - 0 Forest Foxes
A good team performance to start the day. Ollie, Sam and Fraser worked tirelessly in midfield and Imogen and Lorcan kept the opposition at bay at the back. Jemima scored a good reverse stick goal.

Brentwood 3 - 0 Old Loughtonians
Any win over Old Loughtonians is good and recent games have been close so this was an excellent result. A hard strike from the top of the D from Fraser and a calm finish from Katie were the highlights.

Brentwood 3 - 1 Waltham Wildcats
Finally some action for Daniel in goal. He made some good saves and some good finishing at the other end meant another victory for the U10s.

Brentwood 4 - 0 Tower Hamlets
This one was a little bit easier against an inexperienced Tower Hamlets team. Elisabeth and Sophie kindly stayed on to play and Sophie was rewarded with a goal. The team maintained discipline and played sensible hockey and it paid off.

U10 Girls (managed by Ian ‘Holloway’ Forbes)
The girls had a good turnout of players, meaning a strong squad and they also helped the U10 boys out with a couple of players for each game(and well done for showing them how to score goals!). Excellent performances and real signs of improvement.

Brentwood 0-2 Tower Hamlets
Jemima and Imogen were helping the boys out. This was a very strange game of hockey. We looked the stronger team for most of the match and had quite a lot of very good chances to score with Katie and Sophie both going very close. I think our inability to finish them, gave the opposition confidence and they managed to scramble two goals, despite the best efforts of Ellie in goal. Sophie, Elisabeth and Emilia showed great tenacity in midfield whilst Betsy and Zahra looked composed at the back.

Brentwood 2 -0 Waltham Forest
Katie and Emilia off helping the boys. A well-deserved win with Sophie scoring. After the first goal went in confidence grew and play improved dramatically.

Brentwood 1-0 Old Loughtonians
Zahra was helping the boys out and Katie getting kitted up for the U12 girls. Another good win in a very close game. This was a very even game, but superior work rate paid off with a well-deserved win.

U12 Boys (managed by Chris ‘Pep’ Minor and Gary ‘Jose’ MacDonnell)
Overall a good performance from all the U12 boys with lots of working for each other and some very good skills on show - only conceding goals when we tried to do too much individually.

Brentwood Red 2 - 0 Waltham Forest
A good team performance with the midfield of Lucas, Hritik and Fraser linking well with Frank upfront and creating lots of chances. Lucas scored an excellent individual goal and Fraser finished a sharp chance. Toby and Oliver were solid in defence and the whole team worked well to keep Waltham Forests chances to a minimum.

Brentwood Red 1 - 0 Old Loughtonians
A much closer game with defences on top and few chances at either end. Hari made a couple of sharp saves to keep it 0 - 0. As full time approached Brentwood camped out around Old Loughtonians D and were rewarded with an excellent strike from Fraser to score the only goal with the last touch of the game.

Brentwood 5 - 0 Tower Hamlets
A very one sided game against an inexperienced Tower Hamlets side. Goals from Frank, Fraser and Hritik went in at regular intervals and there could have been more with a bit more composure and passing, but by that stage most of the team had gone goal crazy! Toby, Oliver and Hari had very little to do at the back.

Brentwood Black 1-2 Waltham Forest
A very high paced game! Excellent tackling and distribution from the back by Simon with George making lots of leads up front. Great energy and work in the middle from Harry, Henry, Brady and Ben. We had our chances and eventually Ben finished well, but we conceded twice on the breakaway with Daniel having no chance on the goals (perhaps unlucky to concede on the final whistle, with Henry injuring himself in a last ditch attempt to save).

Brentwood Black 1-1 Old Loughtonians
Solid defence and some good saves from Daniel. Good goal from Harry, but again conceded on a breakaway when we turned over possession.

Brentwood Black 5-0 Tower Hamlets
Most of the team scored (much more than the official 5-0). Tower Hamlets were a very young side and a bit out of their depth on this occasion.

U12 Girls (managed by Ian’ Holloway’ Forbes and Kris ‘Big Sam’ Spurling)
Overall good performances with some unfortunate results (which did not reflect the effort put in). Lessons to take away for next time include the importance of taking chances and also playing to the whistle! However, the work rate was excellent all afternoon.

Brentwood Red 6 - 0 Tower Hamlets
A relatively easy start to the tournament against a rather young and inexperienced Tower Hamlets side. However, there was some nice hockey played and some good goals from Hannah, Maddy and Tess.

Brentwood Red 0 - 1 Old Loughtonians
A much closer game with defences on top and few chances at either end. Brentwood probably were the stronger team for much of the game. but could not create clear cut chances. Despite some good saves by Katie, Old Loughtonians managed a scrappy goal to take the win.

Brentwood Red 0 - 2 Forest Foxes
This was another very even game with lots of effort in midfield, from Tess, Scarlett and Ellie. Maddy continued to make good runs up front, but again we failed to get on the score sheet and Waltham Forest took advantage.

Brentwood Red 0 – 3 Waltham Wildcats
The team continued to work hard and despite some good last ditch tackling from Robyn and Holly, Waltham Forest were much more clinical in front of goal. Several times the girls stopped expecting a whistle to be blown and the opposition took advantage.

Brentwood Black 1-3 Waltham Wildcats
Similar to Brentwood Reds. We were very competitive, but Waltham Forest had one player with good skills and composure in front of goals.

Brentwood Black 1-2 Old Loughtonians
This was a game we probably should have won. Daisryrose, Charlotte and Savannah worked tirelessly in midfield. Hannah scored a good individual goal, but it wasn’t quite enough.

Brentwood Black 0 - 0 Forest Foxes
Some good saves from Katie combined with solid defence from Pranita and Alice meant that we kept Waltham Forest out. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break them down at the other end and had to settle for a draw.

Brentwood Black 5 - 0 Tower Hamlets
The team finished on a high with a clean sheet and plenty of. I definitely remember goals by Daisyrose, Charlotte, Emma and Hannah – not sure who score the other!
