Grit and determination just falls short

SLEAFORD TOWN JUNIORS 1-0 BRIGG TOWN U18's

On a fine sunny Sunday afternoon Brigg Town U18 side went down 1-0 to Sleaford Town at Sincil Bank.

Both sides came out to a warm welcome from a large enthusiastic crowd that nearl filled the main stand of the famous stadium.

The game kicked off with both sides playing the ball around with confidence. It was Brigg though who looked the more likely as both wingers were finding good room on the flanks.
The crossing was also superb but sadly these crosses were not met to well by the attack. As Brigg attacked the game became more open chances started to be created at both ends.

After 35 minutes the Brigg keeper saved bravely at the feet of the Sleaford attacker. Unfortunately the keeper received a blow to his leg that led to a 7 minute stoppage before he was finally removed from the field. (See seperate article for further details).

Half time came withBrigg back on the offensive but after firing shots from all over were unable to break the deadlock.

The second half started with Brigg attacking but a lengthy stoppage for an ambulance, required to take the keeper to hospital, it was Sleaford who started to come into the game. Brigg looked as if their efforts in the first half had taken their toll on them.

Midway through the half Sleaford attacked and a wild tackle in the box saw the referee award a spot kick. The kick went towards the right but the stand in keeper flung himself down and blocked the shot. Unfortunately for Brigg the taker reacted quickest and blasted the loose ball home.

Sleaford now settled as Brigg chased the game but neither side really looked like adding to the score. As Brigg went for broke they forced a couple of corners that led to a couple of heart stopping moments for the defence but sadly the goal never came.

As the whistle blew for full time it was a debased Brigg side that slumped to the pitch.

A very brave effort by Lee Thompson was not enough for the win but their performance left the huge following from Brigg very proud of their efforts.
