This was a highly entertaining game between two well matched teams from which Brigg emerged with a late goal to secure their third win in the last eight days, taking them up to second position in the league table
The visitors made the first telling attack with a move down their right wing allowing James Reid to send a shot narrowly over the cross bar. They followed this with a dangerous free kick outside the penalty area but this was well defended. Bruno Holden quickly responded for the home team getting free on the left but his cross into the goalmouth area was headed safely away for a corner kick by James Reid. Zac Costello fouled Daniel Ricketts on the edge of the area but Brigg's free kick was blocked. With confidence growing, Brigg started to pass the ball about neatly and Alan Lamb was on the end of a five man move before striking a shot at goal which was saved by Niall Cooper, Coldfield's 'keeper. Cooper then did well to tip a shot from Liam Dickens over the bar. Brigg continued to press forward and Bruno Holden combined well with Alex Flett to win a left wing corner, from which the ball rebounded off the upright and then was cleared off the goal line. At the other end, Greg Archer was almost caught out appealing for an off side decision but he then recovered well to knock the ball out for a right wing corner kick, which was cleared. Jake Turner, the home team's goalkeeper, did well to turn a shot past the post for another corner kick and Briggs counter attacking movement was halted.
Brigg took the lead a minute from half time when the ball was played through into the penalty area on the left for BRUNO HOLDEN to knock it past Niall Cooper.
The visitors started the second half strongly winning a free kick twenty yards out but this was safely collected by Jake Turner. Then Craig Marshall ran at the heart of the Brigg defence before striking his final shot over the bar. Brigg responded with an attack down the right wing with the ball played into the penalty area for Alex Flett to turn neatly before shooting over the bar. Sutton scored an equalising goal after sixty-five minutes following a right wing corner kick , which was met with a powerful header into the roof of the net from ten yards out by EDWARD BOOTH. Minutes later, the visitors went close to taking the lead when a long throw into the area by substitute Chris Milner was turned over the bar from close range by Craig Marshall. Brigg scored the match winning goal ten minutes from time from a free kick just outside the penalty area. RAY FORD's strike went past the defensive wall and beat 'keeper Niall Cooper. Brigg continued to defend well and held on to their lead, going really close to extending it with a shot off the cross bar and another clearance from the goal line.
On Monday afternoon, the team travels to Grantham Town and follows this up with an away game next Saturday in the F.A. Challenge Cup Preliminary Round at Armthorpe Welfare.
