Quorn 1 Brigg Town 3
Ryan Paczkowski was back leading the Brigg attack and three more recent signings were in the team line up for this important away game fixture against Quorn (Loughborough),- these being Christopher Dickman,Jordan Cooper and Jamal Shahin. John Leonard was also included for his first full game.
Brigg made the first attacking move down their right wing, where Ryan Paczkowski held the ball up before slipping it forward to Jamal Shahin who struck a sharp shot across the face of the home team goal goalmouth. Quorn replied with a free kick on the half way line from Dan Marshall into Brigg's goal area but this was cleared up the pitch. Jamal Shahin combined neatly with John Leonard to win a right wing corner kick but this was also cleared. Then Mike Smith set Liam Davis free on a run down the left wing but his final shot was saved low down by goalkeeper Matt Nurse. Quorn 's main threat came from long throws into the goal area from Ash Robinson but the Brigg defenders defended well against these. Conor Marshall sent a long free kick from half way deep into the home team's penalty area before the ball was scrambled clear. Then Quorn produced a move after a throw on the right wing when Shawn Richards combined well with Ash Robinson before the ball was crossed into the goal area for Lawrie Dudfield, but his attempted header at goal went past the upright post.
Brigg opened the scoring in the thirty- fifth minute after Mike Smith switched the ball for John Leonard to move it forward into the penalty area where Liam Davis turned his marker before hitting the the back of the net with a crisp from ten yards out. Two minute later, Ryan Paczkowski found Liam Davis in a similar position but this time the ball was deflected away for a corner kick. Brigg continued to take control of the last ten minutes of the first half and were rewarded with a second goal two minutes from the break. From out of defence, the ball was played up to Jordan Cooper who moved it further forward to Ryan Paczkowski just inside the penalty area, where he turned to strike a shot into the roof of the net. The home team responded briefly with two fortunate free kicks being awarded in a central position outside the penalty area, both taken by Anthony Marriott. The first went narrowly past the top corner of the goal striking the support stanchion and the second was well covered by goalkeeper Tom Woodhead, who made a save low down at his right post.
Brigg looked reasonably comfortable with their two goal lead and continued to press in the early minutes of the second half, always threatening to add to the score line, especially from attacks down the left wing. The home team still relied upon set pieces and long throws into the penalty area from their most influential player, Ash Robinson, but the Brigg defence always looked well organised and in control. Tom Woodhead had to make one good save when tipping the ball over the bar from a long range shot. The game was made relatively safe half way through the second half when the ball was played quickly out of the defence into space on the left wing for Liam Davis to draw his marker before switching it across the edge of the penalty area for the supporting JAMAL SHAHIN to drive it into the bottom of the net.
Quorn pushed hard to get back into the game and were rewarded for their efforts with a consolation goal six minutes from time when Brigg were caught out after losing possession of the ball on the half way line on the left and KRIS NURSE struck a firm shot into the roof of the net but it came too late for the home team to get any points from the game.
Brigg now line up against the same team at home on Tuesday evening and follow this with a long trip to Market Drayton next Saturday afternoon.
