The home team attacked from the kick off with the influential Neil Grayson working the ball forward on the right for Terry Hawkridge to cross it into the goal area where Tom Woodhead collected safely. Then from a free kick mid way into the Brigg half, the ball was only partly cleared before being knocked back against the cross bar before bouncing away to safety. Tom Woodhead was alert to make another save low down but Carlton scored their first goal after thirteen minutes of play when Ruben Wiggins-Thomas raced on to a pass down the left wing and progressed into the Brigg penalty area past Matthew Plant before pulling the ball back for NEIL GRAYSON to find the bottom corner of the net from close range. This initial success gave the home team plenty of confidence and they had most possession of the ball throughout the remainder of the first half with Brigg never really able to test out opposing goalkeeper Danny Marshall. After thirty minutes of play, Neil Grayson almost grabbed a second goal when the ball was flicked across the area from a left wing corner kick but Tom Woodhead again made a splendid point blank save. This was followed by another corner kick, this time from the right wing, which flashed across the face of the Brigg goal but at half time there was only a single goal to show for the home team's domination of play.

Brigg started the second half much better and had their best spell of the game in its opening twenty minutes but without causing any real problems to the resolute home defence. Carlton threatened again with a neat combination of play involving Terry Hawkridge and Josh Thornton down the right wing winning a corner kick, which was held safely by Tom Woodhead. When Terry Hawkridge was fouled on the edge of the penalty area, Adam Kimberley struck the free kick over the cross bar. Brigg had a good chance to level the score after an hour of play when Phil Jackman flicked the ball forward for Charlie Weir, who was making his debut, but the young striker got under the ball and lifted his shot over the cross bar. Liam Dickens worked his way neatly to the goal line on the left wing and pulled the ball back into the path of Lawrence Heward but the latter completely missed his kick at the ball as he attempted to get a strike at goal from a good position.
The home team stepped up their game again for the last fifteen minutes and controlled the play being unlucky not to add further goals when first the ball struck the woodwork and then Tom Woodhead saved well. However, they made the game safe with ten minutes remaining. Brigg won a free kick mid way into the Carlton half on the left and Liam Dickens played the ball to the far side of the penalty area. This was scrambled clear down the left wing with the Brigg defenders out of position and Nick Hall progressed to the edge of the penalty area before getting a shot at goal. Tom Woodhead got his hands to the ball but it fell kindly to RUBEN WIGGINS-THOMAS, following up in front of goal, to force it over the line after a deflection.

A friendly game has been arranged for Tuesday evening at home against Selby Town but then Brigg travel again next Saturday afternoon to face Newcastle Town.
