Goole AFC 1 Brigg Town 3
Greg Archer, Mike Smith and Lee Cochrane were all unavailable for the game at Goole but there was a welcome return for Ollie Fisher and Lawrence Heward in the starting line up. Brigg opened the scoring in the first minute of the game when the ball was played down the left wing and JORDAN COOPER got a toe on it to lift it over the head of the advancing goalkeeper,Aaron Chapman, into the unguarded net. Brigg had the advantage of a stiff breeze behind them for the first half and enjoyed plenty of possession to increase their confidence. When the home team attacked, Danny Wright's free kick into the goal area was cleared for a counter attack but Ryan Paczkowski ran the ball too far forward and over the goal line. Then Danny Wright set up an attack down the Goole right wing and when he crossed the ball into the penalty area, Gavin Allott connected with a scissor kick but his shot was well covered by Tom Woodhead. Danny Wright continued to be the main threat for the home team and from another right wing cross, Vill Powell found the back of the net but he was ruled to be in an off-side position. Gavin Allott had a good chance to level the score but headed over the bar from Simon Harrison's long free kick. At the other end, Ryan Paczkowski made a strong forward run and Brigg were awarded a free kick outside the penalty area for a handling offence. Aaron Chapman saved the ensuing shot from Ryan Paczkowski and then did well to turn another effort from Liam Davies round the post Continuing to press for a second goal, Brigg had an in-swinging left wing corner kicked off the goal line but they did manage to double their lead two minutes from half time when Ryan Paczkowski surged forward again and released the ball to JORDAN COOPER, who struck a firm low shot into the back of the net from fifteen yards out.
Goole started the second half well but Simon Harrison's free kick into the penalty area was cleared and then Danny Wright's corner kick sailed out of play at the far post. Brigg continued to play with confidence and passed the ball well against the facing wind. The third goal came twenty minutes into the second half when the home team defenders were all caught out of position attempting to attack a right wing corner kick, but the ball was cleared for Ryan Paczkowski to break free before switching it to JORDAN COOPER, who calmly controlled it before completing a hat trick after finding the bottom of the net past the advacing Aaron Chapman. Goole responded and reduced the arrears eight minutes later when GAVIN ALLOTT headed home from close range following a long left wing cross. Nevertheless, Brigg continued to look comfortable with their lead, although Tom Woodhead did have to make another important save late on when he tipped a shot from Simon Harrison over the cross bar.
This win has lifted the team into thirteenth place in the league table but they now have a strong test facing them in their next game at home on Monday January 2nd, 2012, when table toppers Grantham Town are the visitors and this game should draw the largest crowd of the season.
