New Mills completed a relatively easy double over a weakened Brigg Town team, having won the previous game two weeks earlier on their own ground in the High Peak area of Derbyshire. Liam Davis, Charles Fisher, Sam Mulready and Steven Owens were all unavailable but Jordan Cooper returned to partner Darren Mansaram in the attack.
Brigg won an early corner kick on the left but this was cleared off the goal line. The visitors settled quickly to win three successive corner kicks themselves but all were defended well. However, after just seven minutes of play, they seized the initiative and scored their first goal when the ball was worked into the penalty area from the right by Luke Horrocks to the unmarked BEN DEEGAN, who found the back of the net from ten yards out. Clearly encouraged by this early success, they almost scored a second two minutes later when Ben Deegan slipped the ball forward for Leon Grandison in the clear, but Tom Woodhead produced a good diving save to turn the striker's shot past the post. The visitors continued to dominate play and two more attempts by Carlos Meakin went narrowly wide. Brigg 's only chances came when Darren Mansaram worked the ball forward to Steve Cannon but there was too much pace on it for him to get proper control before shooting and then Darren Mansaram set up a chance for Jordan Cooper, whose shot was saved at his near post by 'keeper James Coates. Brigg looked as though they might keep the deficit down to a single goal at half time but the game was effectively decided in the last four minutes of the first half. After forty- one minutes, JUSTIN PICKERING found space in the penalty area to meet a left wing cross before striking a firm shot into the top corner of the net and three minutes later, LEON GRANDISON was played clear down the middle of the pitch before firing another low shot past Tom Woodhead.
Brigg had the slight wind advantage behind them for the second half and started well. After fifty minutes, the ball was played forward for Jordan Cooper to run on to beat 'keeper James Coates at the edge of the penalty area, going past him to put the ball into the empty net. Unfortunately, the officials ruled that the goalkeeper had deliberately handled the ball outside his area and he was therefore shown a red card with a free kick awarded to Brigg twenty yards out from goal. Chris Dickman's shot went wide of the upright. The visitiors re-organised to comfortably hold on to their lead, even though Brigg had more possession of the ball using the extra man. The home team never really tested the new goalkeeper until two minutes from time. When the ball was played into the penalty area from the left wing, LAWRENCE HEWARD met it well to drive it into the back of the net. Brigg pushed forward for more in the closing minute but were caught out by a quick break down the right wing allowing LEON GRANDISON to score a fourth simple goal for his team when the ball was passed inside to him, unmarked in plenty of space.

Next week, the team travels to take on Sutton Coldfield and then follows this up on Easter Monday with a home game against neighbours Goole AFC.
