Brigg Town 0 Loughborough Dynamo 3
A new look and inexperienced Brigg Town team opened the season against Loughborough Dynamo but suffered a disappointing defeat. They looked apprehensive from the start and allowed their opponents to take control of the game from midway during the first half, trailing by the three goals at half time.
The visitors started confidently and Matt Langham had the ball in the net inside ten minutes but was ruled off- side. When Brigg attacked, Bruno Holden raced into space to the edge of the penalty area but then tripped with the ball beneath his feet before being able to get a strike at goal. The Brigg defenders were kept busy in clearing the ball from the goal mouth following a long throw into the area. The first goal was scored after twenty two minutes when the ball was cleared from the visitors' defence across the field to the right wing. MATT LANGHAM found space and had the pace to go past Lee Cochrane before firing the ball into the corner of the net. In the next minute, Brigg had a great chance to get level but Liam Dickens' shot struck the upright and was scrambled clear. After thirty seven minutes, Dynamo increased their lead from a long throw on the right wing into the goal area where SCOTT MOONEY spun on the ball to knock it past Tom Woodhead in the Brigg goal. In the last attack of the first half, Dynamo added an all important third goal when a harmless forward pass down their right wing was not cut out and allowed SCOTT MOONEY space to advance before striking the ball again into the far corner of the net.
Scott Mooney had an early chance to complete a hat trick at the start of the second half but pulled his shot wide of the post. Brigg regained some composure and started to play the ball about with more confidence but good scoring opportunities were not taken to enable the team to get back into the game. Bruno Holden, Liam Dickens and Greg Archer all went close but failed to test opposing goalkeeper Kahil Mann-Kler and Dynamo consolidated to preserve their winning lead
On Tuesday evening, Brigg travel to play Belper Town and follow this up next Saturday with a trip to Hucknall Town.
