The first game of the New Year is tomorrow.

Brigg Town host East Yorkshire Carnegie in their first match this year. They last met on the first day of the season. Carnegie won 2-0 scoring early and late on. That was five months ago and both sides have improved since. The game should be more exciting to watch this time.

Carnegie have lost seven of their last eight matches. However, five of those losses were only decided by one goal. They will have had unlucky defeats this season – something Brigg can relate to. Phil Jackman and Anthony Bowsley used to manage them, but now player-manager Jonathan Ricardo does. Some of their players are excellent including Jordan Harrison. The winger has scored twelve this campaign including a hat-trick against Ollerton Town.

Brigg’s squad is very similar to their last one. There is only one out and one in this time. Cameron Houson is the one out due to an injury. Cameron Hill has recovered from injury and is back in. The starting eleven probably won’t be very different at all. An almost identical team should be able to play well again.

Brigg’s 2017 had its ups and downs. Hopefully 2018 will be a better year for the club. Things are looking hopeful both on and off the pitch. The performances and results have improved recently. Brigg can avoid relegation this season then kick on next season. That’s the plan for this year.

Good luck in 2018!
