After an excellent start to winning ways at Netherton Town looked to improve on that with a win over local rivals Brighouse sports. The long trip from the dual seal to Brighouse High was well worth it as Town picked up all 3 points in their second win in a row making a true statement that their season is officially turned around.
The early parts of the game were dominated by sports who came out quickly for the first ten mins until Brighouse duo Reece Glaseby and captain Angus Hastings
started to boss the midfield with some big tackles and good distribution. Town were getting a lot of joy down the right hand side but there was little quality in the final third. The decision was made early on to switch Jake Stewart
and Jamal Bent in order to get more deliveries into the box from the right hand side. This worked to some effect creating good chances for Rafiq and Hervel Landu but to no avail. Town really started to dominate play with Sam Henderson tucking in to find the ball which also created space for Dale Spink to make some Roberto Carlos style ventures forwards. Town finally got their rewards when Jake Stewart
slotted home from the 6 yard box to make up for an earlier miss. 1-0 town who went on to double this lead with a goal from in-form striker Suleman Rafiq
with an excellent low finish to the keepers left. 2-0 Town half time.
Half time message - concentrate. Sports pulled 1 back within 2 minutes of the second half kick off with an excellent low shot to just beat keeper Luke Jarrem. However Town instantly struck back with an excellent individual strike by Rafiq scoring with his "weaker" foot firing it into the top right corner. 3-1 Town.
Town dominated the football with their pass and move attacking football. Early in the second half saw Brad Waddington
come on to have a very impressive debut for the oranje playing in midfield breaking up the play well. However it was sports who went on to score with a 30yard screamer to make it 3-2 against the run of play.. Town quickly hit back with a centreback scoring a strikers goal to increase towns lead to 4-2 in the form of Louis Andre
with a clinical finish inside the box from a corner. Whilst town had all the play it could have been ruined by a strange decision when Sports played a ball over the top which dale Spink intercepted which then rolled into the path of Luke Jarrem who rightly picked the ball up.. A pass back was given which bewildered everyone, nonetheless town got on with it straight after it resulted in a goal for 4-3 they kept their heads and proceeded to pass, move and play patient football. Sports had picked up their game after the goal however and were on top creating some very nervous moments.. Towns patience and belief in their own ability to never change their game plan and always pass the ball paid off when debutant Brad Waddington
settled the nerves with a well taken strike from inside the box. 5-3. Good battling, patient, confident display from the Brighouse Town lads.. The dressing room is 100% different than it was a few weeks ago and things look to be heading in the right direction for this talented bunch of young footballers.
Shelley up next who are top of the league having not dropped any points. Town were unlucky against them last time being 3-0 up at half time but unlucky to finish 4-3 down. Out for 3 points, revenge and to keep this winning streak going. Up the town.
