BRIGHOUSE Town notched up another good home win against North Yorkshire team Pickering Town on Tuesday evening.
A Pikes team that saw it lose its goalkeeper after two bookings for taking out leading scorer Tom Matthews on two occasions which then led to a red card.
Player-manager Paul Quinn said: “We made hard work of it but to be fair to Pickering they are a good side and they will be up there this season, but of course I am pleased with the result.
“I don’t think we played particularly well but we will take the result. I did however think we deserved the lead at half time as we had a good first half.”
Five minutes in and Brighouse went one nil up with a goal from Matthews who skillfully, danced round the defence before putting it in the net. He was tripped after the goal by the keeper Aaron Reid who, after having words with referee John Walton, was shown the yellow card.
The equaliser came on the 15th minute mark after a third attempt on goal in quick time by a slick looking side. Joe Danby chipped the keeper Jacob Giles, from about 20 yards out to score his tenth goal of the season.
Two minutes later and Brighouse came close to scoring again with teamwork from Matthews and Ernest Boafo but the keeper Reid managed to finger tip the ball away.
In the 23rd minute Boafo ran the ball down field from the halfway line and took a shot from about 35 yards out. He chipped the ball over the keeper head but it landed just wide of the goal.
Brighouse made it 2-1 in the 27th minute with play between Boafo, Matthews and then the goal from Ryan Hall.
In the 31st minute Ben Small was given a yellow card for a foul tackle.
Pickering Town were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when keeper Reid came out again with his leg high and clashing with Matthews just outside the box.
Reid was shown another yellow, then a red and went for an early bath.
Boafo took the free kick but stand-in keeper Nathan Cook moving from right back made a superb save.
On 42 minutes Hall, on the near side post, kicked off the line to prevent an equaliser.
Just before the half time whistle, Joe Thornton's header just missed the target
Three minutes into the second half and with a wide open Pickering goal, Matthews, presented with a `gift’ could have dribbled the ball home, but he opted to shoot from 22 yards out and sending it just wide.
On 60minutes and Hall again kicked the ball off the line to scupper Pickering's chances.
Four minutes later and Hall was denied a goal himself as his ball was pushed away from the top corner by Cook.
In the 66th minute Tom Brown kicked Pickering's attempt from Baxter off the line.
A minute later and Hall bagged his second goal of the match with assistance from Boafo who crossed the ball to Thornton who then steered the ball for Hall to finish and make it 3-1.
With 20 minutes to go, Brighouse brought on fresh legs as Joe Mitchell replaced Danny Naidole. Eight minutes later and Brighouse made another sub with Sam Hewitt replacing Ben Small and Antony Brown then also replaced Matthews.
Antony Brown's first touch was a pass to Nick Jagger whose attempt just went wide of the goal.
With three minutes to the final whistle, Pickering scored to make it 3-2 with Robbie Hawks putting the ball in the top right corner.
