BRIGHOUSE TOWN secured a very valuable derby victory over Ossett Albion on a very wet Monday night at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

Manager Vill Powell summed things up after the game: "Following a disappointing defeat on Saturday it was important we responded and got three points Monday and credit to the players. They did just that with a very strong attacking performance and an excellent first half defensive performance.

"Before the game I was brutally honest with the players regarding recent results and that time for excuses was finished and that we needed to start showing the belief work ethic and quality we have and not feel sorry for ourselves.

"The players seemed focused and produced a first half display that really signified what we are about, hard working resilient and attacking at pace, and the tone was set from the first minute with Adam Field who, despite suffering with a lung infection, played two games in three days and set the tempo by being on the front font and starting an attack down the right.

"That high energy front foot attitude became infection throughout the side with man of the match Adam Jones and Tom Haigh putting in commanding performances in midfield along with Adam Shaw and Gabby Johnson being constant threats upfront"

The game was end-t-end from the off with chances being offered up, but on 16 minutes Albion came the closest when Danny South just had a chance snuffed out on the line by Chandler Hallwood.

Ten minutes later and South was booked for a heavy tackle on Gabriel Johnson.

A minute later from the free kick some 35 yards out on the left, Iwan Heeley swung the ball into the area and Adam Shaw out jumped the defence to lock on to the bal and head it into the back of the Albion net to make it 1-0.

In the 37th minute Johnson had a near miss when he put too much power on the ball and he sent it over the crossbar.

Two minutes later and Jamie Underdown hit the side netting from a superb pass from Tom Haigh.

Town added a second goal on 41 minutes, Heeley, having a good game out wide, took aim but from the ricochet Adam Jones followed up and put the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Adam Field was booked a minute later for a foul tackle.

As Town’s confidence grew another last attempt before the half time break came from Johnson as he sent the ball agonisingly across the face of the goal and then the referee blew up for the break, Town leading 2-0.

It was only four minutes into the second half when Ossett Albion pulled the scores back to 2-1 as Ross Hardaker put the ball past Chandler Hallwood.

In the 54 th minute Underdown put a superb shot on goal but hit the crossbar.

A minute later and Town brought on fresh legs with Jack Normanton replacing an injured Johnson.

It was in the 67 th minute when Town increased their lead back to two goals. Jones fed a sublime ball through to teenager Normanton who took the ball 30 yards down the middle of the pitch untouched before firing it past an advancing Dylan Parkin, on loan from Chesterfield, for his first goal for the Town first team.

In the 70th Town then subbed Jones, who left to warm applause, and brought Callum Robinson on.

Albion followed up with a superb long range shot from former Town player James Hurtley but Hallwood made a good save.

Another change for Town in the 76 thas Shaw was replaced by Jacob Buchanan.

Five minutes later and Town went 4-1 up with Normanton bagging his second from an Underdown cross. Haigh was also denied by Parkin after he sent in a rasping shot with `goal' written all over it,.

With five minutes to go Albion pulled a goal back with Kieran Scargill adding his name to the scoresheet and making it 4-2.

There were four minutes added time but Town held back the visitors and secured the win.
