Brighouse Ladies took a coach load across the Pennines to Chorley and enjoyed their eighth consecutive win through goals from Charlotte Proud, Jodie Redgrave, Danni Brown and an own goal.

On the convincing win manager Rob Mitchell said: “We played some of the best football we have ever played. We just blew them away, which was good to see against a strong Chorley side.”

The match began in frantic fashion with Annabelle Cass intercepting a stray pass but snatching her one-on-one opportunity wide, while Town keeper Steph Jones made a couple of important saves.

Brighouse took the lead on 14 minutes as Danni Brown curled a speculative ball over the back-line for Proud to bravely nip in with her head, allowing Redgrave to lob the onrushing keeper.

The lead was doubled on the half-hour mark as Cass drove through to lay it off to Proud on the right, whose self-proclaimed cross found its way in at the back post.

Chorley remained a threat throughout the game and caused Town to concede their first goal in 516 minutes with a fierce shot off the under-side of the bar on the stroke of half-time. However, Proud still found time to burst into the box and put it on a plate for Brown from six yards to reaffirm Town’s two-goal cushion at the interval.

The third seemed to take heart out of the hosts as Town’s front three ran riot in the second-half. A Redgrave cross was turned into her own net by a Chorley defender to make it four on 53 minutes, before a fantastic whipped cross from Brown found her fellow winger Proud at the back-post to cushion past the keeper.

Ten minutes later and Proud put the gloss on her own and Brighouse’s performance, grabbing her hat-trick and Town’s sixth from the penalty spot after she was brought down by the keeper. Afterwards Proud said: “It was a great team performance, everyone needed to up their game from last week, won their individual battles and worked for each other.”

A last-minute consolation for Chorley did little to dampen the mood of a delighted Mitchell, who added: “Our players suit our system and we’ve turned over result after result. It’s good to hear that other teams are talking about us now. Hopefully we can keep the momentum towards the WR Cup Final on May 17 v Bradford City."

On Sunday Town’s final home game comes against Crewe Alexandra (2.30) at the Dual Seal Stadium.
