MATCH REPORT

Dunston UTS 1 Brighouse Town FC 1

Friendly

21st July 2012

Dunston entertained Brighouse Town from the Baris Northern Counties East League this afternoon on a hot summers day!, after the recent

rainy season. The Dunston squad welcomed back Stephen Goddard and Michael Robson who missed the last game following the birth of his

first child and Stephen Goddard. Stephen Gibson, Ben Cattanach, Chris Swales and Kane Young were not available.

This allowed manager Billy Irwin to play a different team formation with a back 3 of Dale Burrell, Jack Burns and Terry Galbraith

The game started and in the first minute Andy Bulford was put through on goal but his effort was saved. The game continued with Dunston having a lot of possession in midfield. In the 11th minute Andy Bulford looking sharp made himself an opportunity but his shot went narrowly wide. After 24 minutes, Terry Galbraith fed through to Lee McAndrew but a poor cross was easily snuffed out by the Brighouse defence, goal scoring opportunities for both

teams were limited.

On 27 minutes following a defensive slip, Brighouse had their first attempt on the Dunston goal but Liam Connell saved. After 35 a

Lee McAndrew free kick into the Brighouse area evaded the advancing forwards and only just went wide of the far post.

Brighouse now getting more into the game had a shot by Ben Thornton swell saved by Liam Connell diving to his left. The resulting corner was deflected up and just over the bar. Dunston rallied and a Lee McAndrew cross found Goddard whose deflected shot fell to Andrew Bulford who slotted home from 8 yards 1- 0 to Dunston.

On 43, Bulford was played through a Brighouse defensive trap, in a one on one against the keeper his lob cleared the keeper but went wide. Brighouse then broke on the right wing and the cross found an attacker but his volley from 4 yards went high over the bar. 1-0 at half time.

.

Michael Robson and Danny Craggs were introduced at halftime for Ian Herron and Gavin Scott, with Dale Burrell moving into midfield. The Brighouse team were now competing well in a midfield encounter but goal opportunities were scarce on 60 minutes, Brighouse attacked the Dunston area and in the resulting melee the referee spotted a foul and gave a penalty which was slotted home by Tom Matthews 1 – 1, Dunston had introduced Preen and Fisher for Bulford and Goddard up front. A Dunston attack saw Michael Dixon challenged by the Brighouse keeper but his header went wide.

On 70 minutes Dunston’s Fisher, took on two defenders only to be fouled and the resulting free kick was headed but saved easily by the Taylor the Brighouse Keeper who was now positively commanding

his area.

On 75, Dale Burrell was fed through and from the by-line played in Danny Craggs whose shot was deflected for a corner. The resulting corner was also met by Craggsy but his shot this time went over the bar.

Brighouse broke on 77 minutes but Adam Wilsons shot was saved by Connell diving low to his left. The game then petered out into a 1 – 1 draw with both teams still battling to gain supremacy in midfield only for both defences to muffle out the resulting attacking moves.

Overall this was a game Dunston could have and should have won, if early midfield play had of resulted in goal scoring opportunities, but the final ball was lacking and real chances were limited allowing Brighouse to recover and reform their composure and equalise giving them a result for their hard working efforts and never say die attitude.
