Brighouse Town were first off the mark this week as their players gathered for the club’s first training session. Town finished the last campaign in fourth spot in the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division under manager Paul Quinn. The boss feels, with an early start to the league fixtures and an FA Cup tie coming up second game in, that they needed to begin work now. “I think it is about standard, most clubs in our league are coming back from the close season about now,” said Quinn. “Bearing in mind that it is an exceptionally early start with the NCE League kicking off on August 4, we are not like the Evo-Stik League teams. Their league doesn’t start until a fortnight later, so we have to get going. “Also this pre-season will be mine. When I came in at the end of August last year, all the recruitment and fitness work had been done by then. "It was difficult to pick up the reins from then, so I’m looking forward to being able to implement my own fitness work and do my own recruitment.” “I’m sure the club will benefit from that as the season gets underway.”
