Brighouse Town 2-1 Ossett Town

Brighouse Town v Ossett Town
Evo-Stik NPL Division One North
by Dave Parker

Brighouse Town continued their impressive run with their fourth consecutive league and cup victory in this very tense derby.
Super sub Chris Fisher, who had been denied a goal in the 75th minute by a finger- tipped save from impressive keeper Brad Dixon, headed the winner in the 87th minute to gain another three valuable points and put his side into a mid-table position on 25 points.
Dixon throughout the game kept his side in it, and when one hears he has been playing for Leeds United's Development and reserve teams and being coached by former Scotland keeper Neil Sullivan, then it answered many questions about his performance.
Town's James Hurtley was in the wars after two minutes when he was badly tackled on the halfway line and a yellow card was produced by referee James Mainwaring when many thought a red would have been more appropriate.
This unfortunately then set the tone for the entire game and the referee flashed many yellows before marching Hurtley for a second yellow card in the 89th minute.
In the fifth minute Brighouse's Martin Allinson was brought down on the edge of the box and Ernest Boafo took a leaf out of Xabi Alonso's midweek book against Manchester City as he replicated the Bayern Munich player' free kick and bent it round the wall to beat Dixon.
Brighouse were playing some good football on a heavy pitch and being frustrated as they looked for that all important second goal. Skipper Leon Henry, Billy Law, starting with Tom Matthews absent through work, Boafo and Hall were really coming up with some good approach play but there was just some quality missing in the final third.
In the 23rd minute Ossett lost their centre forward Danny Chambers to be replaced by Chris Wood who went on to have a good game. A minute later and a Boafo screamer via a ricohet was just held on to by Dixon .
Town had a narrow escape at the other end a minute later when Ryan Williams crossed for Wood to just narrowly head wide.
In the 28th minute Henry, who was dribbling across field, was booked in a collision with Ossett's Chris Ovington who had to be helped from the field. Josh Whiteley replaced him and then Dixon was injured after colliding with Law.
In the 40th minute Town had a great chance to increase their lead as the ball came nicely to Hall but he blasted wide.
A minute into the second half and following a goalmouth scramble in the home half the referee pointed to the spot and Wood duly obliged to level matters.
Hurtley, who was having a powerful game for Brighouse in midfield, was booked and two minutes later Jacob Giles had to be at his best to keep out a shot from the impressive Williams.
In the 59th minute it was time for Hall to receive what looked a harsh booking and a minute later manager Paul Quinn introduced Chris Fisher for Adam Wilson. In the 63rd minute Henry looked all on to have scored on the angle but Dixon snuffed it out. A minute later and Tyrone Gay, once more a rock at the back with Sam Hewitt and attacking wing-back Ben Thornton, was booked.
Hall and Boafo combined but again that man Dixon thwarted them and then Quinn introduced fresh legs in Danny Hull for Allinson who had worked hard in midfield.
In the 75th minute Fisher latched on to the ball from 22 yards out with `goal' written all over it but Dixon jumped up and with one hand just tipped it over. At this stage teenage prospect Isaac Baldwin was introduced for Law and his pace and skill was evident from the start as Brighouse really pushed for the winner.
The winner came after good work down the left had forced a corner and Hurtley sent in a cross that was met by Fisher and his looping, yet forceful header, just had Dixon beaten as it edged in at his top left hand corner.
Hurtley sixty seconds later was being sent off as he picked up his second yellow card.
Fortunately, the home team cheered on by their supporters, managed to keep Ossett at bay for the added time and then celebrate yet another win. l
