TOWN'S VISIT to a sunny Merseyside last Saturday turned out once more to be fruitless as Precot Cables continued their push on the top four with a 1-0 win.

As manager Vill Powell pointed out afterwards:" Six games without a win is a difficult statistic for any club let alone a new one with a new manager and a new team, and although injuries and suspensions have played a big part in many of the recent results that wasn't the case Saturday.

"In short we simply weren't good enough with the ball and ultimately one mistake has cost us what would have been a hard earned point. Despite the fact we had several players return on Saturday we weren't clever enough or clinical enough in possession to win the game.

"Despite the run of results it’s important we stay positive and not lose sight that it's a long season and no one said it was going to be easy but we will continue to work hard to turn the corner and start getting some positive results."

Town did have some early chances at Volair Park, Ernest Boafo and then Tom Haigh, finding a goalkeeper's leg in the way, both denied in the first six minutes. Then, as Prescot settled down, aided by left winger Harry Cain, a thorn in the Town side until he left the field midway through the second half, they put a lot of pressure on with Dom Marie, Lloyd Dean and Cain all giving the recalled Chandler Hallwood plenty to do.

Town did try to push forward through Ferdinand Annor, Boafo and Jack Normanton but were unable to trouble home keeper Marcus Burgess who had a quiet 45 minutes. Two minutes ahead of the break Town had the first of three players booked when Lewis Riley went in to the referee Peter Simm's notebook.

Town's threat on the home goal didn't materialise much in the second half either until the last 15 minutes spurred on then by the fact they had gone a goal down on 59 minutes when Cain banged home a goal after Town had failed to clear a corner, both Hallwood and Harley Wigley not making the ball safe.

Town had introduced Jamie Underdown, Jacob Buchanan and Adam Shaw and they eventually started taking the ball to the home goal and for really the first time in the game Burgess and his defenders were having to work. At the other end Hallwood saved a powerful freekick from Jordan Wynne before the Town fans saw Underwood send in two good crosses that were just cleared-one of the line-and both Shaw and Haigh go near.

It wasn't to be and it was back to the drawing board ahead of the Monday home game with Ossett Albion.
