Ray White Memorial Match IXX

Brighouse Town Old Boys 6 v East Bierley 4

Old Boys regained the Ray White Trophy in one of the highest scoring matching in its 19 year history. A great turn out from the Old Boys provided plenty of opportunity to rotate the players at regular intervals which kept the standard of play high throughout the match. Old Boys took an early two goal lead, the first a thunderbolt from Jonny Haigh, the 2nd a lucky shot from Wayne Crossley but East Beirley soon pulled a good goal back from Tom Ormondroyd. As half time approached, a great through ball from Andy Warns gave Glen Hall the chance to make it 3 -1 to Old Boys.

The hosts increased their lead early in the second half from a Wayne Gibson penalty after Glen Lee was brought down in the box, but again East Bierley hit back to make it 4-2 through Ormondroyd. The game was really open now as both sides tired but continued to play some good football. Mark Brady made it 5-2 to Old boys with a superb curling shot from outside the box, only for Ormondroyd to complete his hat-trick to make it 5-3. Rob Mitchell added a sixth for Old Boys before Dan Abbott replied for East Bierley in the last minute to round off the scoring in an entertaining and sporting match.

Emotional Old Boys Captain, Bernard Joyce kissed the trophy before raising it to his team mates and said he was so proud he felt like kissing everyone he was so excited.
