Regent Dumped out of The FA Cup
Brightlingsea Regent's FA Cup run falls at the first hurdle.
Brightlingsea Regent traveled to Hanwell Town of the Evo Stick South, East Division to get their campaign underway.
A trip across to West London, a part of the footballing world that hasn't been too kind for the R's in past seasons.
The game hadn't long got underway when the visitors took the lead, a Charlie Mitchell corner from the right wasn't dealt with, and the ball ended up into the net without any touch. A freak opening goal for the hosts. 1-0
The opener seemed to have stunned the R's and Hanwell pressed forward for a second. Calum Wright broke free down the left and advanced into the box before striking wide, a let off for Regent.
Hanwell did deservedly double there lead on the 40 minute mark, a free kick from Charlie Mitchell was flicked on and the ball rattled the bottom of the post, Glen Yala reached the quickest to the rebound and his header looped into the open goal. 2-0
Regent did get a lifeline, an Aaron Condon free kick was centred from the left and met by Matt Cripps at the near post to guide past the goalkeeper Xavi Comas. HT 2-1
Regent started the second half with more of the same, they looked in search of an equaliser advancing forward. But then a sucker punch was dealt! Yet another set piece, this time a corner taken once again by Charlie Mitchell was deep, this was then headed back across goal for Calum Duffy to head towards goal which crept into the corner. 3-1
Webster wrung the chances to try and get back into the game once more, Freddie Gard looked to have been brought down in the box, but the appeal was waved away before an excellent long range shot for George Doyle was beaten away by Xavi Comas in goal, and the rebound was cleared to safety.
Lightning winger Jake Clowsley was denied with 20 minutes to play, he raced on to a through ball, beating the advancing goalkeeper, before getting his shot away which agonisingly found the post and was cleared. Seemed by then it was not the R's day!
Hanwell finally put the tie to bed, yet another corner was headed home, this time by Glen Yala with just 8 minutes remaining, leading to Regent exiting the FA Cup. FT 4-1
A massively disappointing day for Brightlingsea Regent, with a poor performance in what is a cup competition that is so important, bringing in much needed revenue.
But let's not dwell on it, there is work to be done. This Tuesday we host Coggeshall Town in the Tolleshust D'Arcy Memorial Cup, before entertaining Enfield Town in the league
