10 man Jevington are rolled over by excellent John Gatford and safe hands of Will Gray. Crescent win comfortably before tea despite one or two minor batting hiccups!

Jevington 58 all out. John Gatford 5-28, Will Gray 2-4.
Crescent 59-4. Joe, Dave and Will all double figures.

There’s nothing worse than a Sunday morning phone call from the opposition saying they are short, but Woody picked up a call saying that Jevington were very short with only 8 players available! Ever resourceful, Matt Wood and James Garnett (Dave’s son) were drafted in at the 11th hour to bolster their numbers. As it turned out Crescent only had 10 men as well, so an evenish game seemed likely.

With Jevington winning the toss and opting to bat one would have thought a cautious approach might have been the tactic to adopt. However a combination of good bowling by John and some curious shots meant that within no time at all both Matt Wood and James were together at the crease and John had got a well deserved five-for. Michael Wood bowled well and would have picked up more wickets rather than his solitary one but good sportsmanship by the Crescent team meant that Jevington’s junior tail wagged a little longer!!

The target of 59 to win was never going to be a problem for Crescent but the number 27 might be etched in Joe, Dave G and Michael Woods brain as 3 wickets were lost with no addition to the score. Fortunately normal service was resumed with Terry G and Will knocking off the runs.

The usual exemplary tea was consumed by all and the decision to play a 15 over a side game was agreed with Jevington to bat first. A different bowling combination was selected (well done Terry) with John G behind the timbers. However, a similar outcome was achieved with the target being around 70. Needless to say Crescent won this game as well with Dave G putting powerful bat to ball and an early adjournment to the pub was welcomed by all.

Many thanks to all that played – I’m sure Jevington will be keen to put matters right when we meet again next year.

Next game – Westbury on tour.
