Sadly Matt has had to retire from professional cricket due to injury.

Matt Machan, who started with Brighton & Hove as an Under 10 and has progressed through the Sussex age groups to win a professional contract and then onto international cricket, representing Scotland at the last World Cup, has sadly announced his retirement due to a wrist injury.

While a Benson Colt, he quickly showed that he was destined for a professional career as he made his first team debut at 14 and continued to open the batting in the Sussex League until he won his Sussex contract at 18.

Matt established himself as a regular in all formats for Sussex and Scotland, and even captained his country in a couple of matches.

Matt leaves the professional game with over 2000 First Class runs and 5 centuries with a top score of 192. He also scored an international century against Kenya and an impressive 83 against a strong New Zealand side.

We wish Matt all the best for the future.
