A true club legend
- JP

For those of you who didn't know Dick Roberts, he was a great cricketing man who contributed massively to the success and development of Brighton and Hove cricket club, through his involvement over a number of years with the colts. He spent hours on the field and in the nets, clad in those familiar trackie bottoms, the white cricket jumper and the cap, encouraging the good, the bad and the downright hopeless to develop as best they could at the splendid game of cricket. Aided only with a tennis racquet for bashing a cricket ball into the atmosphere (fielding and catching practice) and with a constant stream of advice and encouragement, he was personally responsible for a huge number of people committing themselves to a lifetime of playing. Some now play at county level; some play for the 5s, but they all recognise the part Dick played in their continuing love for the game.
For those of you who did know him, he was not only a great cricketing man, but a great man who loved a good glass of wine and a chat. The annual celebration of Dick's contribution to the club and his life in general will take place on Sunday 23rd July. Please try to attend.
