A fantastically exciting second season for The Limers ends with postponed games, cancelled games, red cards & opportunities missed by...uh, everyone

Thank You for supporting Non-League Football. If they did not build it the way they did, when they did, you couldn't do it now...

If you have been following, we last left off with us third in the League and our midweek away game versus Ealing Town.

We needed a win (of course) on the Thursday, the same again on the Saturday vs the elusive Mursley Utd away and we needed Kent Athletic to beat or draw with New Bradwell St Peter to secure an automatic promotion spot.

What happened was that Ealing Town folded with four home games to play.

Great? We get the points, you say? No, their record was expunged and we lost the points that we won against them in our home game, as did New Bradwell SP. However, Kent had lost to them home and away and so being unaffected by a points deduction, were duly crowned runners-up to Champions, Hale Leys Utd.

With third place the only prize left, come the Saturday, Kent Athletic beat New Bradwell SP 2-1 at home.

Unfortunately, at the same time, we had a nightmare with key players missing, the kit arriving late due to traffic and a subsequent late kick off - and we lost 2-1 to Mursley.

To make matters worse, we ended the game with 9 men, due to red cards for Jude Stirling and Reiss Gabriel for two bookable offences each.

New Bradwell SP were arisen from their deep depression on realising that we had also lost and so they had claimed the all important third spot.

We now found ourselves fourth, with the mad position of the possibility of finishing fifth if we lost to Mursley at home and Old Bradwell won their last two games.

What happened...?

Old Bradwell did not win their last two games and Mursley Utd failed to fulfil our home fixture for the second time on the Bank Holiday Monday and we were awarded the points.

The benefit of momentum that we received from playing regularly during the season, came back to bite us in the run-in, as we had long gaps between key games. Two week breaks before each game vs Kent Athletic, New Bradwell and Mursley - all of which, we lost by the odd goal.

No excuses. Believe me, no excuses. We just have to analyse how we went from 18 games unbeaten, with 14 wins to 3 losses in our last 4 games.

Anyway, we finished fourth in the end.

What that means with regards to promotion is a blog in itself.

The situation I THINK is thus:

New Bradwell are promoted as the highest finishers with the facilities to enter Division One - Step 6. That is certainly how both I and New Bradwell interpreted the rules at the start of the season and they are duly preparing for life in Div One.

If there is a space for another side to be promoted from Division Two, then it will be us. In this deluge of uncertainty, that is one of two things I can be sure about.

We have to see whether The FA move a step 6 side over to the Spartan or not, and there are also applications from clubs outside the League for a place in Division One.

Both the FA and the Spartan League have their meetings mid-May where the decisions are made - and we await our fate.

As soon as we know, you will know - that is the other thing I can be sure about.

On the whole, it has been an exciting and enjoyable season, with our congratulations going to our 'adversaries'.

We will be making our representations to the League in support of our case and then we wait.

In a season of many notable Limer achievements, there are a couple that merit special mention.

Skipper, Ralston Gabriel, finished top goalscorer in the Division with 27 goals in 27 games. Four more than Alex Woodfine of Hale Leys Utd in second place.

Ralston is also one of two players that started every game for us this season. The other is Full-back, Dervon Hurde. A remarkable achievement and effort from both of them.

Thank you to all those that have taken an interest in our progress this season. Thanks to everyone that has followed us on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and all the rest of it. Thanks to all those that came to our games both for the 1st team and our Young Limers.

Thanks for visiting our website and we hope for your continued support.

Once we know our fate, we will announce the date for our end of season bash at the Ground where you can meet the players and the management and, of course, everyone is welcome.
