1. Primary Age Kids

Broad Plain is an ambitious club with the fastest growing youth section in south Bristol. The accent is on inclusiveness - although we like to win, we feel it's more important that kids get regularly involved, so everybody gets a game regardless of ability - maybe that's why we're growing so quickly?.

We actively cultivate links with south Bristol schools, recruit at their summer fairs, offer in-reach coaching, and welcome all kids to come and play for Broad Plain, their local club. Every year Broad Plain hosts several tag rugby tournaments for primary schools in south Bristol (years 3,4,5 and 6), and also the County finals for Bristol primary schools, in the 'Tag-to-Twickenham' national knock-out competition.

We train kids from the age of 4 upwards

For season 2013/14 we have:

A nursery (under-6)section, for kids up to and including year 1. This group is all about having fun! As the kids move towards age 6, they develop skills for competitive tag rugby

Under-7 (year 2)

Under - 8 (year 3) (unbeaten all last season!)

These squads play non-contact mini tag rugby, 7-a-side, with around 14 competitive fixtures per season. This is a fast and furious game, loads of running about, and everybody gets an opportunity to score

Under - 9 (year 4)

Under - 10 (year 5)

These squads play mini rugby, 9-a-side, beginning to play the contact game. Contact skills are introduced progressively, and the kids really enjoy the hands-on aspect! 3-man scrums and lineouts are introduced, but non-contested in under-9s.

Under - 11 (year 6)

This squad plays midi rugby, kicking is introduced, scrums and lineouts are contested but limited.

Under - 12 (year 7)

This squad plays midi-rugby, similar to the above

We also have older squads to cater for secondary age kids

All squads train or play matches on Sunday 11.00-12.00 throughout the season (September - April)

Training also takes place from 6.30-7.30, or 7.00-8.00 (Under 12/13s only) on Wednesday evenings, all year except the school summer holidays. Come along any time to give it a try, or give one of the coaches a ring to find out more (click on the relevant squad in the Mini or Junior sections).

Kids from many schools in south Bristol play for Broad Plain, including the following:

Ashton Gate, Ashton Vale, Ashton Park, Bedminster Down, Cheddar Grove, Compass Point, Connaught, Headley Park, Holy Cross, Holymead, Hillcrest, Hotwells; Knowle Park, Luckwell, Parson Street, Perry Court, St Annes, St Mary Redcliffe, St Patricks, Southville, Summer Hill, Victoria Park, West Town Lane.

so you may find your kids already have some friends playing here.

All you need to try out is a pair of studded boots, and warm/waterproof clothing in the winter. Under-9s and over also need a mouthguard - less than £2 in ASDA!
