Brockenhurst falls short, again.

After narrowly losing at Fawley, Brockenhurst travelled to Lymington looking to secure their first win of the season. Skipper Jariwala won the toss and elected to have a bowl on a soft, green wicket.

Jarvis and Jariwala opened the bowling and it wasn’t long before a wicket fell as Jariwala bowled opener Gannaway for 0 in the 2nd over. Jariwala nearly had his opening partner Trestrail soon after, with a miscued pull looping up but beyond the reach of Hugh Greenwood at mid-wicket. Trestrail and Smith batted carefully until the 10th over when Trestrail was caught by Hugh Greenwood off the bowling of Jariwala - Lymington 38-2 after 10 overs.

Spin demon Poleru was introduced into the attack and removed the Lymington captain Hunt for 9, chipping to Greenwood (Hugh) at mid-wicket. The next over saw Khandakar, replacing Jarvis; dismiss Smith (22) who drove firmly but straight into the out-stretched hand of Jariwala fielding in close.

The Lymington batsmen continued to struggle against the leg spin of Poleru and seam of Khandakar as wickets fell regularly during a spell of bowling which saw Lymington collapse from 54-2 in the 17th over to 69-8 after 25 overs. Poleru finishing a superb spell of bowling with figures of 4 wickets for 15 runs off his 8 overs.

Inglis (11) looked to take the attack to Brock, striking a couple of boundaries until Khandakar had seen enough and got his man after a smart catch at slip by Shah. Khandakar finishing with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 11 runs from his 8 overs.

At 82-9, the left hand, right hand combination of Jackson (27*) and Treagus (16) came together and frustrated the bowling attack, manoeuvring the ball into the gaps effectively and capitalising on any loose deliveries. Eventually Treagus was trapped LBW by Rogers but not before a valuable 43 runs were added for the last wicket to set Brockenhurst a tricky 126 to win.

The Brockenhurst players, however, headed into the break in confident mood….

Jarvis and Hugh Greenwood were tasked with opening the batting for Brockenhurst and were immediately faced with testing bowling as the Lymington bowlers bowled accurately and got the ball moving around.

Brockenhurst’s first wicket fell in the 4th over, Greenwood bowled by Treagus for 0. Jarvis was given a reprieve soon after with square leg dropping a catch off the bowling of Treagus, however, it didn’t prove to be costly as Treagus later bowled Jarvis for 15 - Brock 18-2 after 8 overs.

Treagus continued to torment the Brock batting line up, trapping Martin LBW (0), bowling both Shah (3) and Jariwala (1). Treagus finally taking 5 wickets for 17 runs from 8 overs.

Brockenhurst were 40-5 after 16 overs but with the threat of Treagus gone, there were still hopes of a victory with Williams and Rogers at the crease. Williams, however, was out for 13 attempting to steer a full toss from Inglis into the gap but could only find the man at point.
Poleru came to the crease full of confidence after his 50 on debut at Fawley and this confidence proved to be his undoing as he attempted a switch hit off the bowling of Hunt, lobbing up a simple catch, Poleru out for 4.

Hunt and Tollerfield dismissed Meedaboina (3) and Khandakar (0) respectively before Tollerfield finished the innings bowling Rogers (15) as Brockenhurst were all out for 66.

A 4th consecutive defeat leaves Brockenhurst 16th in the league, whilst Lymington III move up to 4th.

No game this Saturday for Brockenhurst 1st XI but the week after sees them visit Parley II, who currently sit 3rd in the table with 4 wins out of 4.
