Badgers secure draw at Griff

Nuneaton Griff 2 Brocton 2 - an own goal and one for Joe Hartshorne secures a point away at Nuneaton.

Nuneaton Griff 2 Brocton 2

A cagey, somewhat lacklustre beginning hinted nothing of the drama yet to unfold. Neither team could knit together any moves of note although each produced moments of promise. A dash into the box from Lewis Commins of Nuneaton was matched in pace and thwarted by Brocton’s Shaan Stuart and an attempted overlap by Harry Phillips was blocked at source by Rhys Lyons at the expense of a free kick. But the first real opening came to the home side on the quarter hour after a quick throw in was met with a snap shot wide of the mark by Ryan Ball.
Brocton hearts fluttered as the pace of Shaan Stuart was once again needed at the back and his pass to Conor Alderman in the Badgers’ goal was hit straight to George Brindleybut the winger could make nothing from it.
It was an attempted interception by Phillips which was unsuccessful that let in Brindley just before the half hour and he was able to reach the bye line unopposed. His cross was met by Ryan Slinn to give the home side the lead.
Brocton made some chances to draw level before the half closed with Tom Vaughan striking wide and neither Joe Hartshorne nor Ryan Burns able to capitalise on a mistake from home keeper Lukas Bailey as he misjudged a long clearance and went completely under the ball. Ryan Aston reacted first for the home side and cleared despite being the sole defender.
Jack Edwards completed the half with a trademark run down the left, cut in to the box and tempting cut back in the box with Bailey covering his route to goal. The ball missed the Brocton forwards who had worked so hard to get themselves into the area.
The home side began the second half the better and Luke Delaney and Jack Colley combined down the right to give Colley the crossing chance. Commins met it but struck wide. It was he, moments later, who skipped past a Ben Douglas tackle to cross low into the box and this time Ryan Millerchip tapped in.
The cushion was short lived though as Ross Clarke clipped a free kick into the box and with Brocton players there in numbers, the attempted head away could do no more than go into the net.
Griff seemed to see their lead slipping away and Millerchip had to resort to scything down Burns as Brocton piled on the pressure. It was to no avail though as the free kick was met by Hartshorne and the Badgers were level. Now, it was Brocton’s turn to feel the pressure as first Hartshorne and then Lee Osborne tried to make absolutely sure of their strike when in on goal only to be thwarted at the last moment. Edwards then hit the inside of the post and saw his effort go wide of the other . Truly a game of two halves.

Brocton: Conor Alderman, Harry Philiips, Ben Douglas, Ross Clarke, Adam Wood, Shaan Stuart, Jack Edwards, Ryan Burns, Joe Hartshorne, Lee Osborne, Tom Vaughan.
Used Substitutes: Sam Garbett, Mark Cooper.
