An away day draw as Brocton get back to league action
Jack Edwards strikes to earn Brocton a point.
Saturday 17th February 2018
Pershore Town 1 Brocton 1
The early moments of this game flattered to deceive with Brocton stroking their passes around and looking both comfortable and confident. Jack Edwards jinked through two defenders and approached the goal area. His cross caused Lee Osborne to stretch and so Osborne’s header was up rather than at goal and when the ball fell at the feet of Adam Wood, the defender could do little with it.
Pershore did pose a threat though as the speedy Jack Downing looked to hug the last man and seemed able to time his bursts through the defence, with his team putting dangerous through balls for him to chase.
It was a comic collision between two Brocton midfielders that both unsettled the visitors and also gave the home side a golden opportunity to score, which they grabbed. Downing it was who made ground with the ball and Steve Webb, up in support, had only to tap it in as McCarthy tried to block off Downings’ route to goal.
A crazy back pass by Pershore then beat the keeper Toby Wilson and the home side breathed a sigh of relief as the ball just also beat the far post and went out for a corner. They, in turn were unsettled though and Jack Edwards made the most of it with a shot high into the far corner of the goal after a quick pass from Jamie Evans.
The game then settled into a pattern of Pershore attacks down the flanks with the right sided pairing of Downing and the ever willing full back Chris Bright giving them most penetration and the dogged but effective defending from Brocton with Wood strong in the air and Ben Douglas and Shaan Stuart equally effective on the ground.
Osborne had to give way to a first half injury at the start of the second half with youngster Sam Garbett taking his place and later a reshuffle gave Joe Hartshorne some game time as Wood made way.
Brocton began to probe and both he and Edwards came close and only an offside decision prevented Declan Arber making the most of a mazy dribble from Hartshorne when he off loaded the ball to Arber with only the keeper to beat.
At the other end Pershore had chances and the best fell to Terrance Morton who struck through a crowd of players from outside the box. Connor McCarthy pushed it round the post after a full length dive and both sides accepted a well earned point.
