A thriller ends with a Brocton victory
Brocton take the lead, are pegged back, but run out winners 4 goals to 2

Lichfield City 2 Brocton 4
A high back pass to home keeper Adam Jenkins provided an early chance for Brocton as Jenkins could only prod it back into midfield, where Joe Hartshorne nicked the ball and went for goal. He chose to shoot but maybe the better option on this occasion would have been to slip the ball to Declan Arber who was up in support and better placed.
Good play under pressure soon led to Brocton’s opener though as Arber combined with Sam Garbett to slide the ball to Ross Clarke. He still had plenty to do, but hit a beauty inside the right post from 25 yards.
Garbett was next to win the ball and run at goal. He too chose to shoot from a narrow angle and once more Arber was up in support and in centre goal. Arber was meant to score though and it came from a Hartshorne corner. The ball dropped in the box and Arber reacted quickest to prod home.
A throw in gave the Badgers yet another threat on goal but the area was well defended as first Garbett and then Ryan Burns tried to work an opening, neither getting a clear sight of goal.
Lichfield had a chance or two before the break to send them in with some optimism as Dan Sheppard’s shot had to be beaten away by Conor McCarthy in the Brocton goal, Ben Douglas completing the clearance and then Tom Green worked himself a good position only to shoot wide.
Debert Massamba on the left won his way to the byeline early in the second half as Lichfield increased their tempo. His cut back was perfect, but Kenny Devoir read it and put in a timely tackle to clear the danger.
Matt Baker, fresh from scoring this morning for the U21 side and on for the injured Robbie Thelwell, hit a shot at goal and brought the save of the match from Jenkins before the keeper was in urgent action again, just doing enough to stop Garbett from getting in his shot after a long clearance had beaten the back line.
But Lichfield came back. First with a strong run at goal and a converted penalty when Green touched the ball away from Devoir and won a penalty, getting up to score it and a now rampant City had Josh Mansell to thank for ramming in at his near post when the home side piled on the pressure.
Brocton were not down though and a remarkable end saw Hartshorne score with his right from the edge of the box and then the move of the match culminated in a simple goal for Arber as Burns slipped the ball across to him in the goal mouth.
