Batting first, after the early loss of skipper, Tom Williams, Rhodri Williams and Nicholas Jackman made good progress and a significant total looked a real possibility. But, once these two were out, progress was more difficult. A steadying knock by Paul Challinor helped the total to 141 which looked below par.
Rhodri Williams was able to bowl only two deliveries before a recurring back problem forced him from the attack. Oli Eccles (playing his last game before departing for the USA to start university) and Alex Johns then bowled extremely well picking up crucial early wickets and restricting the scoring rate. James Walters entered the attack and took three wickets before Tom Williams brought on Toby Johns to bowl wrist spin at the tail, successfully picking up the last two wickets to secure a fantastic and well-deserved win.
The win moved the team to 9th place in the division but with the same points as Puttenham and Tilford. With four matches to play, including next Saturday against 10th placed Chiddingfold and the last match against Puttenham, the battle to stay up will go down to the wire.
