Schools’ Rugby

The past week has seen us battling against the weather to get any schools’ rugby but we feel we’ve managed not too badly overall.
Broughton Primary School: We started a new block at Broughton Primary School, rolling out rugby to their P4s and P5s. Gregor ran an initial week of taster classes, working on ball familiarisation and the beginnings of a touch game.

Broughton After School Club: this week we had some great work from our younger members, who have really taken on board the skills we have been working on over the past few weeks and are now starting to put real pressure on the older guys.
Drummond Community High School: This week saw the first of our Drummond after-school sessions, run by Berti. By all accounts this was a great starting point, with people attending who have already been involved in rugby, as well as those who were very new to the sport.

Trinity Academy: the school of rugby ran as usual throughout the week, working on a variety of defensive aspects and doing lots of over loaded attack games to test our roles and responsibilities in a defensive system. Unfortunately the majority of the Trinity Academy rugby on Saturday was cancelled due to the weather. However, the S1 boys played and came away with a successful win in dreadful conditions. This Saturday’s fixtures are against Linlithgow for all age groups.

Victoria Primary School: we ran another rugby session with the P4s and P5s, building on success from last week and looking to build into full sided games of touch with a range of new rules that will affect the way they play.
BATs’ Youth Section

Last week we moved training from the RAF hall down to Raeburn Place so we could run a training session for our U16 team who had a big fixture on Sunday. We looked at handling, then split into forwards and backs and then ran some team shape so the guys could get used to playing together for the weekend’s semi-final.
This weekend BATs S1 team has an away game against Heriot’s S1s, Goldenacre, 12.30pm. The S2s are also playing Heriot’s, but they are at home. Meet at Raeburn Place at 12.30pm for a 1.30pm kick off. There is no training for BATs U16/18s this weekend.
Training on Wednesday at the RAF hall as usual, 6.30-7.30pm.
U16s

The U16s had a huge game against Stewarty on Sunday down at Raeburn Place where they pulled off an emphatic win over the visitors with a huge score line of 50-0. This great result means we are now into the final. The venue is still to be confirmed but rumour has it that it might be played at Murrayfield.

The stars of the day where not just the boys who were playing in the brilliant game but also the parents who provided a huge and delicious spread of home baked goods that went down a storm. A massive thank you to all those who slaved away at making them for us on Sunday - it was very much appreciated.
