'Cup final' approach is a must for the Coach as Broughton get back to business

After ending 2014 undefeated in East Regional 3, it's back to action on Saturday at Wardie as Walkerburn 'first-foot' Doug McClure's side.

Broughton's last outing in the League was back in October and for McClure, getting back on the pitch and securing another win is key as the season enters the business end of proceedings.

"It's very important we start this first game of the New Year with a strong performance, every game is a cup final for us and we must focus on playing our game for 80 minutes and if we do that the team will be successful on the day."

A win would keep the pressure on Ross High who currently occupy top placing, having played two games more than Broughton. It's a berth the Coach is hoping the Belters are just keeping warm for his side come the end of the season.

"All the pressure is on Ross High, no one expected us to be in a position we are in, our guys are enjoying it and I'm sure if we had been able to play all our games we would be sitting top quite easily."

Due to weather and the winter break, it's been a full two months since the title challengers took the field. In the amateur game, this can often be disruptive and allow a loss of focus within a side. This is a problem McClure is confident that his ever growing group of guys won't suffer from come 2pm on Saturday.

"Each individual in the team is really self motivated so it's good to work with them. Lots of these guys share flats with each other and socialise a lot with each other, so it works keeping the team together.

"I'm also looking forward to seeing Robbie Brown get his first start for the Club. He is showing a lot of promise for a young lad and not only does he fit in well with the squad, he has really bought into the game we play."

The visitors arrive on the back of a couple of victories and McClure knows anything other than a win will keep his side in the hunt for promotion of East 2 next season.

The Coach added, "It's has been frustrating throughout the season with teams calling off hours before kick off and other challenges along the way too, but we are where we are and it motivates the guys a lot more to get out this league."

The game kicks-off at 2pm.
