Park fall to defeat at Rochdale

Broughton Park lost 25 - 5 at Rochdale, with their consolation try coming from Warren Duffy.

I will start this article by saying that i was very critical of the team's performance last week (particularly the first half) but the 18 players couldn't have given more effort this week.

The whole squad has trained well, worked hard, committed themselves to the cause and if they continue with the attitude shown this week i am positive fortunes will soon change.

Park started the game in fantastic fashion with a try inside the first 5 minutes by Warren Duffy but the new kicker Connor Mitchell just missed the conversion.

The rest of the first half was fairly even the difference being that when opportunities presented themselves Rochdale executed and finished off moves better than Park did and scored 2 excellent tries wide on the right that left the half time score 17 - 5.

Park again made plenty of opportunities in the second half but after making the initial break either tried to force the final pass or lost the ball in contact. We looked better when speeding up the play but just lacked the finishing touch.

Rochdale ran in another good try this time out wide on the left late on in the game, Park continued to press but try as they might any further points proved illusive.

This was an entertaining game between two very evenly matched teams the difference being the final execution and as such credit to Rochdale who's back 3 i thought were excellent.

I felt our referee today Mr Taylor also contributed to a fast flowing game with very good control of the break down and tackle area.

Next Saturday's game takes on a lot of importance, with the effort and application shown this week by the whole squad i'm confident that the boys can come up wit the goods.

Neil Parkin's 2nd team were left heartbroken by LSH for the second time this season after a huge effort and decent performance by the boys a last minute penalty left the final score 15 - 17 to LSH. Stand out performances came from Matt Casson and Mike Stevens (in his new boots!)

I'm sure Dell will be delighted to know that this weeks "team of the week" goes to the 3's who had a magnificent victory away to Didsbury Toc H. Brilliant result well done guys.

The 4's again competed well but found life very difficult against top of the league Caldy 3's.

The 5th's not to be out done by magnificent victories scored a wonderful win against top of the league Aspull first team! The score was 42 - 12 and to put the result into perspective the boys lost by over 70 points in Aspull at the beginning of the season. Very well done and we all look forward to the cup game now!

Thanks again to the small few who enabled us to put out 5 teams again, those who came and supported the lads and to Wazza for all he has been doing to change our fortunes it is very much appreciated.

Cheers
