After the last two weeks defeats, Saturday was a time to put things right. We not only did this but did it in style with a try fest. Once again we had a full squad of 20 + for the third time this year a father playing with his sons in the same team. We have had the O’Brien’s and Evan’s now it was the turn of John Russell and his two sons Sam & Ben Russell. Spartans kindly allowed us to use all 23 players during the game. We were also very fortunate to have royality at the game in the form of Lord & Lady Bill who had flown in earlier in their private jet from their manor somewhere south of Birmingham. We were informed too late as a club so we were unable to roll out the red carper but I don’t think they were too bothered. After the usual banter in the dressing room, this time lead by Leo and Bill we were informed about “Grazing.” It is amazing what we have learnt this year. Then JR arrived scrounging kit from everyone and then telling stories of his troubled past. We made changes to last week’s team to let the replacements Steve, Shack and James Ellis start from the kick off and there was a debut from Donald George in the centre as both Kegs & Jamie were unavailable. Cessaire amazingly was at the club forty minutes before kick off.



Spartan’s won the toss and decided to play into the wind. We did not see the ball for the first ten minutes as they retained the ball so well and only good tackling kept them out. Then from a penalty in our 22 Ces kicked downfield but the ball went in to touch just as he was about to score. So for the next ten minutes they worked up the pitch again with us unable to get the ball. Then just as they look as though they were going to score a great double hit by Jack & Joe Noone forced a turnover, KO’B to Ben O’B. 60 metre run inside pass to Ces to score 7-0. Then five minutes later a step from Donald forty meters out broke their defence for him to race away and score. 14-0.



We then lost Yonner to a recurrence of his calf injury but it did not stop him shouting positively throughout the match from the touchline. Then Jack appearing in the centre’s took his man on the outside and sprinted in from 40 meters. 21-0. Ces followed this by an individual try sprinting down the touchline to score. 28-0. He then completed his hat trick when from a quick ruck ball following good work by Leo, Shack and Basher Bishop on one of his last games for the club. Deep Heat to KO’B to Ben O’B back inside to Ces to score. 35-0 Then just on half time from a quickly taken line out Ces fed James Ellis to score in the far corner. 40-0. Half Time



Changes were made with Bill, James Cooley and Sam Russell coming on and as the second half continued Kami & James Mac both entered the fray. Spartans started the second half well with both strong rucking and mauling. From a line out on our 22 they drove us over the line and also converted from the touchline. 40-7. Wake up call for the lads and they responded. Good forward play led by Dave Bonser, Dave Goley and James Durkan ensured we won quick ball and from this the backs benefitted with tries from Bill one of which was him showing his natural football ability and James Cooley from a fortunate bounce following a kick from Cessaire.



Then came the moment we had been dreading JR came on the field with his son Ben who went to scrum half. Now all 3 Russells were on the pitch and not a Jack insight. The first contribution to the game from Sam & Ben was positive, strong, straight runs and good passes. JR’s first contribution was passing to the opposition and then being offside. There was further tries then by James Cooley and Donald followed by a popular try by Bish with a helping hand from James Mac. Then it happened for the first time this season the KOB scored a try after Running?!? Fifty metre’s to be on the shoulder of Donald to take an inside pass to score. He probably infact most definitely would have scored but I did quietly tell him that if he scored a hat trick he would have to buy a jug so he sensibly passed. The final try came with the last play of the game with KOB putting Ben O’B through a gap for him to score. 94-7. I believe on checking the scores that the final score was 101-7 but it would not have been fair on the Spartans as they did not deserve to be on the end of a scoreline like that but today compared with the last two games we were clinical in our finishing. If this is to be our last league game this season what a great way to finish and a good way for JR to remember the day. He seemed to be very interested after the game about his fingers. I could not understand what he was on about. He also did not shower with us, which was strange.
