The Unicorns Fly
After last weeks backs to the wall effort against Eccles this week the Unicorns faced Liverpool aiming to show what they could do with the ball in hand.
With Liverpool only travelling with 14 players and one player who was a last resort, the game starred 14 a side.
In the opening exchanges the unicorns were a little greedy with ball in hand and the Liverpool full back was able to stop any breaks becoming scores. Once coach Lancaster was able to get the word on to move the ball to players in space the ball began to sing, with wingers and centres managing to find the space they could not in the opening exchanges. As the first half wore on at times the Unicorns were able to string some great play together utilising forward runners and the backs using the space which the forwards had created for them. First half scorers Nikki X2, Alanna, Abi, Georgia, Juliette, Emma.
At half time the Unicorns talked about making sure the ball was clean at the base of a ruck and the ball carrier made a definitive decision whether to take contact and generate quick ball or move the ball to players in a more prominent position.
The 2nd half kicked off and for the first 20 minutes the Unicorns implemented the messages they received at half time. With the weather changing and in a typical mancunian down poor, Liverpool managed to adapt to the now very greasy weather conditions and scored midway through the 2nd half. After a scrappy 10 minutes the Unicorns managed to finish with a final flourish and scored 2 tries. Try scorers in the 2nd half: Nikki x2, Alanna, Louise, Emma, Flora x2, Juliette,
Final Score: 85-5
Player of the match this week went to Nikki & Layla for it being their 2nd game of rugby they have taken to the sport like a duck to water.
