BROXBOURNE'S Floodlight Cup, semi-final was abandoned at half-time after 45 minutes described as "more like Dancing on Ice than football". The match had been one of the few in the area to be given the go-ahead from the officials. It had plenty of action as five goals were scored, including Dan Broom and Dean Williams netting for Broxbourne, before a melee before the break saw a Cockfosters centre-back sent off for throwing punches. "It was a ridiculous decision to start the game," Broxbourne boss Geoff O'Vell (pictured) told the Mercury. "I tried to get the players positive about it, although both sets of players weren't keen on playing.

"The last third of one end -the one we were defending - was frozen solid and our defenders couldn't stand up. It was more like Dancing on Ice than football. "Our keeper was trying to get to the ball at one point on the slippy pitch and boots were flying in. That's what led to the melee, lots of pushing and shoving and their guy getting sent off." O'Vell said the match would be replayed in the coming weeks.

On Saturday, Broxbourne secured their second league win under the new manager as they beat Stotfold 4-2. After four minutes, Chris Doyle crossed for John Tikare to head the first goal and two minutes later Doyle chipped the keeper to double the lead. Stotfold halved the deficit through Josh Bronti's long range effort before the break. Early in the second half, Dean Williams played a good ball in to Jordan Watson to make it 3-1. Stotfold's Josh Cook pulled another back late on, but Watson made sure with his second three minutes from time.
