New Broxbourne Borough manager Geoff O’Vell has revealed that his targets for the remainder of the season are to finish in the top eight of the Molten Spartan South Midlands League, whilst he also wants at least one piece of silverware for his side, with Broxbourne sitting in two cup semi finals. O’Vell, formerly Joint Manager at Goff’s Lane now has full control after replacing Ashley Fisk. A mutual decision was made between Fisk and Broxbourne Chairman Peter Harris for Fisk to step aside due to disciplinary reasons. Despite this management change, Fisk will still remain an important asset to the club and will take up a position on the committee.
Geoff O’Vell will be assisted by Paul Surridge {pictured), who worked closely with O’Vell at Hoddesdon Town. O’Vell revealed that he had an extremely successful partnership with Surridge when they worked together at Lowfield, winning three trophies. O’Vell acknowledged that one of their biggest priorities was to try and improve the club’s discipline as well as their work-ethic.
When asked about the club’s ambition for the remainder of the season, O’Vell insisted that he was targeting a top eight finish in the League, as well as winning at least one of the competitions they’re in, those being the Herts Charity Shield and the South Senior Midlands Floodlit Cup. O’Vell remarked, “We have the talent to achieve a top eight finish and gain some silverware, it’s just about becoming more consistent and improving our work-ethic”.
Speaking after the 4-2 triumph over Stotfold, the former Hoddesdon Town manager admitted he was extremely relieved and pleased to have secured an important victory, meaning that since he had taken charge, Broxbourne have recorded six points from a possible six in the league. He stated, “I’m obviously delighted with the victory and the character we showed when Stotfold got the score back to 3-2, as we responded instantly”.
The Broxbourne manager was delighted with his side’s sharp start to the contest, but admitted he was slightly disappointed with his side’s sloppiness. He commented, “When you have a two goal lead so early in the game, it can go either of two ways. You can go on and win emphatically, or you become sloppy and allow your opponents back in the game. Unfortunately today, it was the latter”.
O’Vell acknowledged that the Goff’s Lane outfit must become more ruthless in terms of closing games out, but he was encouraged with the determination and character shown by his side.
Next up Broxbourne Borough face a trip to Cockfosters in the South Midlands Senior Floodlit Cup Semi final, as they aim to continue their impressive form and secure a place in the final, continuing their quest for silverware.
