An excellent all-round squad effort resulted in the BSN Cubs winning the Dutch National U15 Sevens Tournament, held at the National Rugby Centre, Amsterdam on Saturday 12 May.
Two teams of BSN/Bassets Cubs were entered into the the competition and although spirited and committed performances were delivered by both sides, it was the 1st team who advanced through the competition to claim the 'silverware' at the end of a long and full day of Sevens!
After comfortably beating both Eemland (45-0) and HRC (48-0) in the qualifying group, the BSN Cubs 1st team moved on to the quarter finals where they faced the 'Oysters'. Another convincing win (42-7) saw our Cubs nicely through to the semis where a competent and well organised Hilversum awaited. However, the lads were more than ready for the contest and triumphed with a very accomplished 24-5 win against their best opponents to date.
And so to the final where they met another well-drilled and well-prepared team in the form of Amstelveen. Although injuries were taking their toll and the fatigue of a long day was setting in, the BSN Cubs delivered a first-class performance of controlled Sevens rugby to triumph in style with a very solid 29-0 victory!
Congratulations to all the BSN/Bassets Cubs across the squad who took part in the Sevens competition - the victory and the trophy belongs to you all!
This rounds off a hugely successful season for the Cubs who now hold national titles in both the full 15s and Sevens competitions!
Outstanding performance lads!
