1. 2023/24 season

Welcome to the new season, your support of the club both on and off the field is much appreciated. It’s a club that’s now 90 years old.

League action commences on 2nd September and we wish Head Coach Mikey Clark, all players and all team coaches, every success for the season ahead. In that regard, I look forward to seeing you at the Sponsors’ & VPs’ Brunch, an opportunity to get behind both the 1st XV and the Swans Greens.

We can also look forward to the camaraderie of all lunches and to more great clubhouse events as we continue our progress towards reaching the Chairman’s £50K fundraising challenge. As always, I will keep you informed about all of this via regular email updates and information will also be posted on the club website.

In my last letter I mentioned that we would be migrating to a new website (known as the GMS website) and uploading content is in progress. I would therefore ask you all to please open an account, if you don’t already have one. Below is a link to a guide explaining what you need to do.

Hand in hand with this initiative, we have installed a new Point of Sale system that features the kind of membership card functionality that you may have seen at other sports clubs. I’m pleased to let you know that Life VPs and all VPs paying a full subscription will be issued with a membership card that entitles them to a 10% discount on bar purchases, along with their usual benefits. Please collect yours from behind the bar, it’s the logical location!

The fixture schedule this season thankfully provides us with the opportunity to stage all the usual lunches and, if you’re a former 1st XV or Swans captain, look out for a personal invitation from Anthony Flack to an elite gathering of past captains on 11th November.

2nd September 2023: Sponsors’ & VPs’ Brunch – 1st XV v Milton Keynes, Swans v Newbury
30th September 2023: Ladies (only) Lunch – 1st XV v Beaconsfield
21st October 2023: Chairman’s Lunch – 1st XV v Bletchley
9th December 2023: Supporters’ & VPs’ Christmas Lunch – 1st XV v Oxford Quins II
Sponsored by @MK18 Private Medical Practice
27th January 2024: President’s Lunch – 1st XV v Bicester
23rd March 2024: Vice Presidents’ Lunch – 1st XV v Grove

It’s great to see so that so many local clubs will be visiting us next season, go to the 'VP Lunches' section for information about tickets.

Please also save the dates for Harpers’ Day on 30th December and for the Beer & Music Festival on 5th & 6th July next year.

Further to my opening line, everything that we do continues to be reliant upon on the generosity of our sponsors and the support of the volunteers who kindly give their time. I thank all of you who participate, particularly those of you do so every time a request goes out. However, and I say this every year, there are many who don’t and it would be good to see some new faces step forward this season please, particularly when the call goes out for help at the Beer & Music Festival.

The 300 Club raises valuable funds for the club and it’s open to members, friends and family. Approximately 40% of VPs are signed up, so if you aren’t, please do give this consideration. There are two prizes each month and the top prize is up to £500 - sign up and full details are available in the Shop>Fundraising section.

So here we go again, we look forward to a great season of rugby and to many enjoyable social occasions.

Yours,

Will Landon
VP and 300 Club Secretary and on behalf of the BRUFC Committee
