Buckingham 1st XV - Report

Buckingham 10 Olney 25.
Report by Eric Curtis
Buckingham made what can only described as a disasterous start to 2012 losing at home to bottom of the league strugglers Olney on Saturday. The visitors ironically have only one won one game beating Buckingham comfortably on the first league Saturday of the season.
This defeat makes Buckinghams tenure in the South West One East League looking more and more difficult particularly as the two teams above them Swanage and Reading Abbey both won..
The game itself could and should have been won, the industrious Buckingham forwards though missing injured skipper Tom Amos won more than enough ball to ensure victory, but prolems behind the scrum sadly tipped the result Olneys way.
Already missing Hulston and Lee with long term injuries, the absense of senior three-quarters who chose to be unavailible raises questions about their committment to the club at this difficult time..
Olney kicked off and though Buckingham got into a good position with a lineout well in the Olney half the ball was lost and Olney quickly ran through some weak defence to score after only three minutes.
Bucking made inroads through the center with some powerful running by young Stuart Craker, but inevitably the ball was lost when control was all that was needed for a try.
As the game moved into the end of the first quarter Buckingam got on to the scoreboard with a penalty though missing two more that would have put them infront..However it soon became apparent that their young backs not only lacked good ball retention but the inability to dominate an Olney side who looked a bottom of the league side.
Though spending the last fifteen minutes of the half camped in the Olney twenty-two there were no further scores, leaving Buckinham with it all to do.
Added to this Buckinghams game was littered with penalties conceeding nineteen in total sadly the marjority in attacking situations so things got worse in the second half.
With less than fifteen minutes played possession was lost allowing Olney to score a converted try to go 12-3 infront.Buckingham responded with a promising attack with Olney being penalised for a late tackle twenty metres from their line.Again Buckingham contrived to lose the ball and the visitors surged to the other end picking up another three points witha penalty.Again the Buckingham forwards got themselves upfield, but possession was lost with the line beckoning and the visitors right wing scampered away to score
Buckingham finaly scored after more good work by the forwards when Adam Whiter went over, the coversion making it 20-10 and giving a ray of hpoe to the deflated home support, but the inability to retain possession surfaced once again and Olney closed the game down with another try and must wish that they played Buckingham every week.

Rubbish Report - 1 year agoOh Eric your not biased. Sound a bit bitter here, grow up and try and be a little magnanimous in defeat. Posting this sort of partisan tripe just makes you look silly and does a disservice to your club. I'm sure your players love been slagged off by some old man, great way to build team sprit and escape the drop to SNC. Anyway good luck in the Bucks Cup final in a couple of weeks, Amersham are going to leave you with a few more long term injury problems :-)
phil wright - 1 year agoMight be an idea to heed your own advice and grow up before you start wishing long term injuries onto players, you're standing on pretty shaky moral highground there mate. And honesty about a poor performance doesnt bother the players in the slightest, dont worry about our team spirit....
Alan Lane - 1 year agoPhil the guy has to hide behind an alias so obviously has no conviction in his own views. If he is from Olney then perhaps he will undertake writiing their reports as they seem to miss a few when defeated??? Eric - spot on report and great to reflect your frustrations which matched the playing squads after the game. He can also take the trip to the final in Amersham in a few weeks to support our oppo and obviously take great delight in any injuries we may pick up- nice guy (one of those who disected cats when he was young I suspect)!!!
Adam Izzard - 1 year agoSometimes a tough report is actually just what players need, especially when they have not performed to the required standard. Fluffing it all up does not do anyone any good! As for wishing injuries in the Cup Final, I am actually lost for words. Which club gave me 21 stitches in my face- oh yes Olney!!! Eric you will always be a hero to the Buck Boys. You are a stalwart supporter of the club who the guys wouldn't do without!!!!
Andrew White - 1 year agoall i want is a name!
eric curtis - 1 year agoNo worries Guys.I have been at this club for forty six years and i don't need to be told to grow up by people still wet behind the ears. im happy to accept critisizme, and will continue to work for this great club of ours in what ever league we play in
chris curtis - 1 year agoClearly I have been wrong in my beliefs of the past thirty years if ‘Rubbish Report’ is to be taken seriously! As I understood and as I try to convey to the young players I coach, honesty is part of the bedrock on which rugby is built and ultimately defines the game, setting it apart from other sports. If performance is poor it needs to be said, hiding behind niceties helps neither man or team.
Andrew White - 1 year agonor does it help publicly displaying feelings such as these.
