In their third game of pre-season Buckingham hosted a competitive MK Galaxy outfit who proved to be no pushovers.

The away side pressed intensely throughout the opening stages and Buckingham struggled to keep hold of the ball. The home side were on top however and Emlyn Hauber managed to penetrate the Galaxy defence. The winger was brought down in the box and Patch Hooper stepped up to score from the spot.

Buckingham were in control. The intense heat and Galaxy’s pressing game was testing United to the limit though. Galaxy were slowly beginning to get into the game without creating any chances. This changed when a Galaxy winger chanced a powerful long shot with the away team’s first chance of the game and to the keeper’s despair the shot found the roof of the net. The same player attempted a long shot from a more central position minutes later and the power of the shot beat Bray in goal for the second time in the game.

United looked out of sorts for the rest of the half, reduced to searching long balls because of Galaxy’s high intensity. Buckingham attempted to fight back in the heat, Hooper missed narrowly with a long shot and Stuchbury had a shot blocked and flashed the follow up agonisingly across the goalmouth. Galaxy took advantage of these misses to add a third before half time with a well-placed lob. United went into half time angry at themselves for being behind, but knowing that their usual passing game could unlock the Galaxy.

In the second half Buckingham showed a clear improvement. Minutes in a ball from the left forced an error from a Galaxy defender as he sliced into his own goal under pressure to make it 3-2. United looked much more assured in possession without looking incredibly dangerous.

As the half went on United began to dominate and looked likely to equalise. The equaliser came in the last five minutes, Patch Hopper getting on the end of a Sam Oxley through ball to calmly lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.

United remain unbeaten in pre-season after three games.
