Buckley crashed out of the cup against Chirk on penalties and can blame no one but themselves. Despite having plenty of the ball in the early stages of the game Buckley found it hard to break down a well organised Chirk defence with Jason Williams and Craig Goodwin looking solid. As a dour 1st half was coming to a close without much goalmouth action Buckley took the lead when Lee Atherton scored a superb goal from 25 yards on 44 minutes. Chirk responded immediately when a poor Ant Williams clearance fell to a Chirk player who delivered the ball into the box and a miskick from Gareth Edwards saw the ball fall to Mike Taylor who fired home.

2nd half and again Buckley had plenty of possesion, it was from a Buckley attack that Chirk counter attacked on 66 minutes and the lively Joe Roberts found himself 1 on 1 with Gareth Rowlands and he slotted home. The same player then hit the bar on 70 minutes which you feel would have put the game to bed for Chirk! To Buckley credit they kept getting the ball down and kept attacking but could find a way past Ashley Roberts but the the clock into injury time sub Derek Taylot scored and took the game into extra time.

Ant williams had what looked like a header hit the bar and go in not given in the 1st minute of extra time whist some great clearances by the chirk defence during the extra time period saw the game go to extra time. Both sides missed 1a piece in the 1st 5 spot kicks before suddern death saw Ashley Roberts save from Dave McIntyre and put Chirk through to the next round!

Thanks lads extra time was just what everyone needed on a bitterly cold night at Globe Way in what was a very good game in the conditions
