Managers Thoughts Buckley Town v Chirk

Managers Thoughts Buckley Town v Chirk image

Buckley Town 2-2 Chirk (after extra time) Chirk Win 5-4 on Pens

Manager Gareth Thomas was left disappointed after seeing his side crash out of the Newfa cup last night on penalties to Chirk. We didn't do enough overall to win the game in 90 minutes as I felt we where careless with the ball and missed some good opportunities in open play, but credit to Chirk they came with a game plan kept a good shape worked really hard and showed more desire and passion for the game than us! They defended superbly at times and good luck to them for the remainder of the season in both the cup and the league. We need to bounce back from this set back and concentrate on the league from here on in!

Funny old game is football – that saying was more than true when you look at the last two games at the Globe. The first game against Bala we were the underdogs and really put so much application and effort into the match, which had such a great atmosphere. Compare that with the game against Chirk, who this time were the underdogs, this game lacked atmosphere and passion with a very poor turnout to support the Trotters. Once again I have to agree with Gareth Thomas for his honest assessment of the game, saying Buckley did not do enough to win the game. He also gave Chirk a lot of credit as they kept to their game plan and showed so much more desire to match Buckley in all departments. This Buckley had previously done the week before against Bala. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise as now we can concentrate on finishing in the top 2 or 3 of the league.
