Bugbrooke Bounce Back Against Defiant Harborough!

After last weeks lesson in rugby by a strong Lutterworth side the Badgers were disappointed at how badly they had played so knew this week they had to raise their game back to the level they had been playing for the rest of the season. However they knew they were going to be involved in a battle with old rivals Market Harborough who have always been a good outfit.

From the start of the game Bugbrooke played with confidence and composure although still managing to butcher chances. The Bugbrooke forwards were back to their best although the smaller of the two sides they seemed more organised than their larger rivals and this showed when a driving maul from the lineout saw Rob Pardon dot down, Zac Miller unable to add the extras. Moments later Zac Miller scored a try of his own from far out this time adding the 2.

On the half hour mark and after a converted Harborough try of their own Bugbrooke scored again with a backs move creating a gap for in form Adam Pepper to scythe through and score under the posts, Miller on hand again to add the conversion. Bugbrooke 12 – 7 Harborough. 5 minutes before half time Bugbrooke number 8 Kie Fewster received a harsh yellow card from the referee and spent either side of half time watching from the sideline. Harborough took this advantage and added another try to their tally making the score at half time 19 – 12 in The Badgers favour.

Bugbrooke started the second half with the wind behind them and decided to use the conditions to their advantage and play in the opposition half. Harborough managed to defy this game plan and in the 53rd minute managed to level the scores with a converted try under the post. 2 minutes later Market Harborough lost a player to the sin bin and from the resulting penalty 35m out Fewster keen to make up for his sin bin punishment stepped up and kicked through the posts despite an opposition fan trying his hardest to put him off.

Bugbrooke used their man advantage in the forwards and in the next 15 minutes managed to add another three tries to their final total. The first of which came from returning skipper John Holding, who after spending 3 weeks living up in New Zealand; looked like he’d never been away sidestepping 2 players to put down over the line. Bugbrooke were unable to add the extras but knew that try had sealed the bonus point.

The next big moment in the game came from another dominant Bugbrooke scrum, the pest of a scrum half Tom Wood broke from the base, drew the Harborough players and passed inside to Fewster who jogged over untouched to put Bugbrooke out of sight. Bugbrookes final try was scored by Adam Pepper grabbing his second of the day and Bugbrookes sixth again Miller was unable to add the extras final score 37-19 Bugbrooke.

After the match Bugbrooke coach Arthur Prestidge said “I’m pleased with the performance. The forwards organisation was second to none after their hiding last week and the backs ran with determination, pace and meaning to put us in some great positions. Next week we travel to Banbury in the Cup which we know again is going to be a war and we know is going to be a game where we simply can’t waste chances like we have been.”

Man of the match champagne sponsored by The Crossroads Weedon went to the old head Darren Attwood (who maybe should have been down on the bottom pitch in the All Stars) he showed why he is still a first team starting player and from the second row played a strong and clever game.
