Battle of Waterloo Too Much

Builth Sunk at Waterloo

Waterloo Rovers 5 - 2 Builth Wells

Builth Wells paid a heavy price for turning in one of their poorest performances of the season so far as they went down 5-2 at their very own battle of Waterloo.

Builth were without midfield trio Harry Bastable, Adam Oakley and Daniel Walker and were then further hampered when they lost player manager Jason Samuel through injury after half an hour.

Kevin Lewis did give Builth the lead inside 90 seconds but the away side's lightening start was dealt a thunder blow as the hosts sailed into a 3-1 lead at the break.

Builth were in troubled waters and a Sam Williams goal proved to be only a consolation as Builth were left feeling thoroughly seasick, with Steve Laws captaining Rovers' voyage towards three points with a hat-trick.

Will Pritchard and Ricky Lichfield were also on target.

Builth Wells Reserves 4 - 1 St Harmon

Builth Wells Reserves returned to winning ways with a comfortable 4-1 home win over lowly St Harmon.

Two goals in each half sealed the points for Leigh Metcalf's troops against the basement boys and maintained the Wednesdays' 100 per cent home record - which has now stretched to six Lant Field wins.

Player manager Metcalf had preached the message of being ruthless against the sides in the lower echelons of the league prior to the game but it seemed for the first 30 minutes that his deciples had not heeded his words as they struggled to break down the visitors.

It was a largely lacklustre display until a mistake in the 35th minute from the visiting keeper gifted Builth the lead. His underhit clearance fell to Dan Stokes and the forward found the net from 30 yards.

Builth were quickly two ahead with Jonny Mills rising well inside a crowded box to nod in a Brad Rollinson cross and the deflated Saints felt that the game was already slipping away.

Any hope they had of wrestling the three points away from the hosts was coaxed out of them 10 minutes after the break when the tireless Liam Ryland volleyed Builth further in front from 12 yards.

The best move of the match fittingly yielded Builth's fourth and final goal - Will Cleaton, Justin Powell, Joel Metcalf and Ryland all exchanged passes and captain Metcalf, surging into the box, was felled for a clear penalty.

The wily Powell dispatched the spot kick low to the right and just out of the keeper's reach and Builth then enjoyed a fruitful period, with substitute and normal goalkeeper Jamie Evans, having replaced Stokes up front, going close on several occasions as Builth displayed some eye-catching possession football.

Fellow sub Matthew Jones should have done better from 20 yards.
The only downside of the day was a late goal for the visitors which would have annoyed Metcalf after it denied Builth a clean sheet.
Despite his arms remaining firmly down by his side, referee Ian Probert pointed to the spot when a goal-bound shot struck Mills' hand, while he also administered a yellow card to the defender who was incandescent with rage at the decision.

Liam McKay gained a consolation for Saints with the very last kick of the game, committing 'keeper Tom Charles before stroking his kick calmly down the middle of the goal.
