Unlucky at Rhayader

Reserves Smash Knighton

Rhayader Town 1 - 0 Builth Wells (Wednesday, November 23)

RHAYADER Town had moved four points clear at the top of the first division last Wednesday night with the narrowest of 1-0 wins over local rivals Builth Wells. The result was cruel on a battling Builth side who had pushed the league leaders every inch of the way in front of a good Weirglodd crowd.

Builth 'keeper Stuart Turpin made a smart save from Mattie Lewis in a goalless first half in which Builth very much held their own despite losing influential player manager Jason Samuel to injury.
It was Builth who started the second half the better with Rhayader's Eifion Price doing well to keep out a Shane Claridge free kick which deceived everyone.

Sam Williams should have put Builth in front but hit a post from close range after Lee James headed back across goal and when Rhayader's Lance Jones crashed a header against the bar at the other end from Jordan Cooper's cross it looked to be heading for a goalless draw.

But Rhayader snatched it with the only goal a minute from time with ex-Welsh Premier man Gareth Hughes firing home his first of the season after Builth were unable to clear a Mattie Lewis cross which led to a melee in their box.

Builth Wells Reserves 6 - 1 Knighton Reserves (Saturday, November 26)

Builth Wells Reserves moved into third spot in the table following a convincing 6-1 victory over Knighton Town Reserves on the Lant Field with captain Joel Metcalf leading the way with a hat-trick.

Metcalf got the opener from Justin Powell's through ball and Powell then scored the second himself from 30 yards. Metcalf lobbed in the third goal and completed his treble when Liam Ryland squared for him.
Powell netted his second from the penalty spot following a push in the box and Ryland completed the rout from close range. Ieuan Rees scored Knighton's consolation.
