Burbage RFC make it through to the next round of the junior vase cup.

Burbage RFC make it through to the next round of the junior vase cup after a 27-22 away win at Market Drayton.

Burbage RFC arrived at Market Drayton RFC on a blustery day where the home side opted to kick with the wind behind them in the first half, forcing Burbage to play into the oncoming storm which soon had a huge affect on Burbage RFC trying to clear their lines from the kick off.

Burbage RFC started poorly, finding it difficult to get out of their own 22m due to the weather and pressure from the home team and with a split defence and missed tackles found themselves behind within 5 minutes to a well worked backs move from the home side which was followed almost immediately by a similar move through the home sides backs to cheers of joy from the home support who must have thought that they were about to witness a battering of the visitors. 10 - 0.

Burbage RFC however, regrouped and after a few choice words under the sticks found their way, working the ball up field until they were awarded a try for their efforts through a well combined forwards move. This gave Burbage the momentum that they needed which was followed by another well worked team try to put Burbage RFC ahead for the first time in the match. 10 - 14.

The home side however had other thoughts and came back strongly using the wind to their advantage and scoring just before half time making the score. 17 - 14.

The second half was more of the same but now Burbage RFC had the wind behind them and found territory by some well worked kicks into the home sides 22m where they capitalised with another team try from a quick penalty. 17 - 19.

This was quickly followed by what can only be described as a try from a leaping salmon as Ross Kellett decided to go up and over a breakdown on the line rather than around it. 17-24.

Burbage RFC were now looking relaxed and were turning the screw more and more, which made it harder for the home team to get any possession or momentum leading to a yellow card and a penalty just outside the home 22m giving Burbage a lead of 10 points with just 3 minutes to go. 17 - 27.

The restart however feel straight into the hands of the home side who showed great support through quick passing and rucking which lead them all the way to the try line and put Burbage RFC under great pressure with just seconds of the game remaining. 22 - 27.

Burbage RFC dug deep and worked their systems well, keeping the ball and finally being able to kick to touch to take home the win after some welcoming festivities at the clubhouse hosted by the home team.

Final Score Market Drayton RFC 22 - 27 Burbage RFC.
