With massive team effort, the newly formed Black Widows really went for it in their first games. No victories yet, but smashed it with tries scored and points won, against more experienced clubs.
The ‘muddy’ match, in slip-sliding conditions against Pulborough on 5th March ended with a 46-0 to Pulborough, but the score didn’t reflect the amazing efforts by the team. Captained by India, supported by vice-captain Diana, the team had a chance to put newly honed skills into practice. An amazing black eye and ‘forward of the match’ went to Tamara, and ‘back of the match’ to Jenny.
The ‘parched pitch’ match, on ground as hard as concrete, took place against the Heathfield ‘Ball Grabbers’ on 23rd April. Coach Lucy, drilled and pumped the team before the match and Captain India led them onto the battle field. Everyone played well in the first half, had their fair share of the ball, gained ground, but were unlucky with the score. However in the second half the Widows hit the pitch with a new venom, and the match hotted-up, with two tries, resulting in 38-10, to Heathfield, but included an absolute stonker of a try from Bertie! An amazing performance by the Widows! ‘Back of the match’ went to Ghislaine, and ‘forward of the match’ to Diana.
